Golden fall in the Altmühltal

The Altmühltal is one of the most beautiful excursion regions in Bavaria - with gentle Jura hills, wide meadows, shady forests and cultural and historical treasures. Around Eichstätt in particular, there are a multitude of tours that are ideal for day trips.

The paths are varied: for a short exploration, take a walk to Willibaldsburg Castle. walk to Willibaldsburg Castle where the Jura Museum and the Bastion Garden await. If you want to combine nature and history, hike through the KultURwald in the Auwäldchen or on the path from Tauberfeld to the Roman fort Vetoniana. Quiet connoisseurs are well catered for on the easy hike from Adelschlag to Eichstätt Eichstätt, while longer routes - such as the stage through the Figurenfeld - offer impressive rock formations and broad panoramic views.

Whether short or extended: all tours show different sides of the Altmühltal - and the best thing is that they are easily and sustainably accessible thanks to the BRB. This makes a trip to the Altmühltal a relaxed experience without a car.

In Augsburg, the path leads to Renaissance buildings by Elias Hollthe famous town hall and the Fuggerei. In Eichstätt baroque squares, the cathedral and Willibaldsburg Castle characterize the cityscape. Schongau impresses with its medieval town wall and views of the Lech river, while Schrobenhausen is a "town of asparagus" with a museum quarter in addition to its churches and town walls. Some tours lead to real classics such as Augsburg Zoo or the Botanical Gardens in the Fuggerstadt. Those who love nature and water can hike along the Lech river or through the Siebentischwald forest, watch windsurfers at Lake Mandicho or simply jump into the cool water themselves. The high ropes course on Lake Ammersee is a great source of excitement - and the fossil trail in Eichstätt will delight explorers of all ages.

If you fancy a great view, you should climb the Hoher Peißenberg - or hike up the Schatzberg!

A perfect day trip: with the BRB to Ingolstadt! A short walk from the station takes you into the old town, where the New Palace with the Bavarian Army Museum and the Cathedral of Our Lady are worthwhile stops. In the pedestrian zone, cozy cafés invite you to take a break - ideal for a fresh pretzel or a piece of cake.

For nature lovers, the Klenzepark on the Danube offers a beautiful backdrop for a walk. If you want more exercise, you can take a walk around the Auwaldsee lake, for example. After a day full of impressions, you can return comfortably by train.
