Past the ice channel to the Augsburg zoo
Family route with many highlights: From Augsburg Hochzoll, it goes through the Siebentischwald first to the ice channel and then on to the zoo.
This green and mostly shaded family route starts at Augsburg-Hochzoll station and leads through the extensive Siebentischwald – past the famous ice channel, which was built in 1972 for the Olympic canoe slalom course and is now part of the UNESCO World Heritage related to Augsburg water management. Here you can often watch professional athletes or hobby athletes training.
Then it continues on flat forest paths, which are also suitable for strollers, to the Augsburg zoo – a destination especially popular with families. Around 22 hectares are home to over 1,200 animals from about 240 species. Highlights include the 3-hectare large African panorama with zebras, rhinos, and giraffes, the walk-in ring-tailed lemur enclosure, tropical reptile houses, a petting zoo, and a large adventure playground – perfect for discovering, relaxing, and playing.
Barrier-free paths, water points, a zoo train, and several kiosks provide additional variety.
Note: The stated route length of the tour does not include the walk through the zoo!
