Circular walk through Schrobenhausen
A walk along the city wall, to churches and museums – ideal to discover the heart of the "Asparagus Town".
The circular walk starts at the station and leads in a few minutes to the city wall, which still encloses large parts of Schrobenhausen's old town. The fortification built in the 15th century with its defensive towers still shapes the townscape today and impressively conveys how important protection and defensibility were for a wealthy market and later peasant citizen town. Along the green city rampart and the small stream, you can enjoy an almost park-like strip around the old town.
In the centre of the old town rises the parish church of St. Jakob – a late Gothic hall church that makes visible the transition of medieval architecture to a baroque sense of space. Schrobenhausen’s sacred diversity is also reflected in the Frauenkirche, whose pink facade and statue of Mary count among the town’s most beautiful details.
Particularly characteristic is the museum quarter at the city wall: several institutions are located close together here. In the European Asparagus Museum you learn everything about the cultivation, history and cultural significance of the "white gold" for which Schrobenhausen is famous far and wide. The Lenbach Museum is dedicated to the painter Franz von Lenbach, born in Schrobenhausen, one of the most important portrait artists of the 19th century. Right next door in the Pflegschloss, a Renaissance building from the early 16th century, changing cultural-historical exhibitions can be seen. Additionally, the Zeiselmair House, one of the oldest preserved artisan houses in Bavaria, is worth a visit, vividly showing the life and work of shoemakers and linen weavers.
