Along the former fortress
Exciting city route for history fans, which also offers opportunities for strolling and relaxing
Ingolstadt was an important fortress city for centuries. The Ingolstadt state fortress, remnants of which are still visible today, testify to this military past.
A themed route along the former fortress facilities offers those interested the chance to immerse themselves in the city's history and discover the architectural testimonies of past eras. The fortress structures were built and expanded in several phases, with the medieval city wall as the foundation.
A notable example is the Reduit Tilly, which served as a central part of the Bavarian state fortress. The impressive bastion was built in the early 19th century and initially served as a defensive structure. Later it was used as an armory. Today, the Reduit Tilly houses the Bavarian Army Museum, which, with its exhibitions, provides a comprehensive insight into military history.
