A culturally and historically shaped hike from the Jura village of Tauberfeld past the Roman fort Pfünz to the baroque old town of Eichstätt.
The hike starts in Tauberfeld at the southern edge of the Altmühltal Nature Park. On varied paths through fields and small woodland areas, you soon reach Pfünz, where the well-known fort Vetoniana is located. The site was an important Roman troop base on the Upper German-Rhaetian Limes and is now one of the best-preserved forts in the Altmühltal. The reconstructed foundations, a rebuilt gate, and information boards make Roman history vividly tangible.
From Pfünz, the path continues over the high plateau towards Eichstätt. Open fields alternate with typical Jura forests before the path leads down into the valley. From afar, the distinctive Willibaldsburg, towering over the town, can be seen. At the end, you reach the old town of Eichstätt, which, with its baroque squares, churches, and cathedral, forms a charming contrast to the silence of the fields and offers numerous places to stop for refreshments, making an ideal finish to the hike.
