Pleasure route through the figure field in the Altmühl valley
A varied circular route from Eichstätt-Stadt station through forests, valleys, and quiet landscapes.
This version of the Traumschlaufe starts directly at Eichstätt-Stadt station and leads out of the town into the surrounding hills. On narrow paths and field tracks, the route alternates between open meadows, bright forests, and small ravines, which are pleasantly cool in summer. Wide views of the Altmühl valley open up again and again, while the paths away from the main routes allow you to enjoy a lot of peace and nature.
Especially impressive is the figure field by Alois Wünsche-Mitterecker in Hessental: hundreds of concrete figures stand here on a quiet meadow - a memorial against war and destruction that makes you reflect but is also fascinating. From this special place, the route finally leads back toward the town via less traveled paths and ends back at the station.
The hike is not particularly demanding, but you should have a certain basic fitness due to the length alone.
Author’s recommendation
There are hardly any places to stop for refreshments along the way, but there are nice spots to rest - so it's best to pack a picnic!

From the station, the route quickly heads east through the old town and settlements on the eastern edge of the town. We follow the description to Hessental, but initially head toward Ziegelhof. Clockwise, we hike a route through the Altmühl valley Nature Park until we finally reach Hessental with the figure field. From there, it goes directly back to the station.
