The city walking route through Schongau leads to the most important sights of the historic old town, which is still partially surrounded by a city wall.
Schongau enchants with its historic town center, which is partially surrounded by a well-preserved city wall with watchtowers. A central meeting point is Marienplatz, the heart of the old town, lined with historic townhouses. Here stands the impressive Ballenhaus, which once served as a warehouse and today is a distinctive landmark of the town.
Not far away rises the parish church Mariä Himmelfahrt. Its baroque interior impresses with ornate frescoes and valuable altars. Those who want to dive deeper into Schongau's history will find exciting insights into the town's past in the city museum.
A walk along the city wall rounds off the visit – especially the Kasselturm, home to the 'herb witch,' should not be missed!

There are numerous cafés at Marienplatz – especially in good weather, you should definitely take a break here and enjoy the beautiful old town!

We start the route at Schongau station. From here we go directly towards the old town. We enter the town via the eastern city moat and first turn right towards the city cemetery. We pass the cemetery church and continue to the Münz building.
From here we circle the old town counterclockwise, passing the Holy Cross Church and the city museum. Finally, we turn left to Marienplatz. From here, we continue to the city wall, passing the police tower and Kasselturm. Along the Holy Spirit Hospital, we walk back to the starting point.
