Roadbook
Our tips for 3-day routes:
Baden Country Stage "Castles & Chocolate" (142 km):
The route starts at the baroque castle of Karlsruhe. Take Ettlinger Street towards the central station. On the south side of the central station, turn east onto the "Stromberg - Murrtal - Radweg" cycle path to Durlach, where we rejoin the full original route and follow the itinerary as described below. Cycle to the castles of Bruchsal, Bad Schönborn, Gochsheim (with the confectionery museum), and Ettlingen. Those who wish can continue to the Favorit castle in Rastatt. At Ettlingen, leave the full original route and follow the "Badischer Weinradweg" (Baden vineyard cycle path) to Wolfartsweier. From there, return to Karlsruhe via the "Schwarzwaldradweg" (Black Forest cycle path).
Baden - Palatinate - Alsace Stage "Chocolate & Wine" (163 km):
The starting point of the route is Karlsruhe Castle Square. From there, follow the initial route (in reverse) to Wörth, crossing the Rhine to reach the Palatinate. At Wörth, follow the full route (in reverse) as described and pass through Jockgrim, Leimersheim, Germersheim, Bellheim, and Herxheim to reach Kandel. From Kandel, the "Petronella - Rhein -Radweg" leads to Minfeld and then ride to Freckenfeld. At Freckenfeld, leave the full route and resume the "Petronella - Rhine cycle path" to Bad Bergzabern. There, continue on the "Radweg Deutsche Weinstraße" to Schweigen-Rechtenbach and then take the "Kraut & Rüben-Radweg" to Schweighofen. Then go through Windhof to join Wissembourg (France). From there, continue on the full original route, the "Franco-German PAMINA Lautertal cycle path" to Lauterbourg. At Lauterbourg, leave the full route and follow the Rhine Route, then take the ferry at Neuburg and cross the Rhine. On the "EuroVelo 15 Rhine cycle path," ride to Maxau and from there return to Karlsruhe, the starting point of this route. Gourmet tip: the "Schokoküsse" (chocolate biscuits) from Herxheim and the Alsatian "Kouglof" are worth every kilometer cycled.
Baden-Alsace Stage "Kougelhopf & Tea Room" (139 km):
The starting point of the route is Marktstraße in Ettlingen. From there, we follow the overall original route detailed below on the "Badischer Weinradweg" (Baden vineyard cycle path) to Rastatt-Rauental, then take the "Rhin Veloroute" south towards Greffern. Near Greffern, cross the Rhine by ferry and arrive at Drusenheim. From there, continue following the original route to Mothern in Alsace. Here, leave the overall route and follow the Rhine, take the ferry at Neuburg and cross the Rhine. The route leads back to Ettlingen passing through the districts of Neuburgweier, Mörsch, and Silberstreifen in Rheinstetten.
Description of the full route from/to Karlsruhe:
The route begins in front of the tourist office located directly on Karlsruhe's market square. Feel free to stop by. In addition to many tips, you will find a "Genuss safari" backpack to collect sweet treats along the tour. The route passes through the market square, in front of the pyramid, along Karl-Friedrich-Straße/Ettlinger Straße to the Albtal station. Here, follow the "NaturRadTour" towards Dammerstock, through the Oberwald to Durlach. In Durlach, after Durlacherallee, continue on Pfinztalstraße, pass the town hall and Karlsburg castle to Hengstplatz. Here, after about 100 m, turn right into Blumentorstraße. Turn left at the next junction onto Alte Weingartner Straße and follow it for 1.5 km. After crossing the Pfinz discharge canal, veer slightly left and follow signs "Richtung Weingarten/Bruchsal" to Weingarten.
At Weingarten, take the "Öko Regio Tour" route to Bruchsal (Untergrombach district). There, turn left passing through Bruchsal's Büchenau district on the "Bruchsaler Ringroute" to Bruchsal center. From Bruchsal to Ubstadt-Weiher, follow the "Schlössertour" route, then ride on the "Kraichradweg" cycle path to Kronau. Once in Kronau, take the "Kraichgau Hohenlohe Radweg" cycle path to Odenheim. Following the "Wohlfühltour" route, you will discover the typical hills of Kraichgau. Passing Pfannwaldsee, Galgenhohle, and the picturesque village of Kraichtal-Oberöwisheim (featuring Pfeifer wood-fired bakery), you reach the Kraichbach plains. Here, follow eastwards the "Kraich" cycle path, which first passes through Kraichtal-Münzesheim, then runs along the railway line to the medieval village of Kraichtal-Gochsheim (Baden bakery museum, Germany's first confectionery museum, Count Eberstein's castle museum). Leaving the imposing setting of Gochsheim behind, continue on the "Kraichradweg" cycle path to Flehingen. From there, you follow the "Panoramatour" to Bretten. Continuing on the "Panoramatour," the route passes through the districts of Rinklingen and Dürrenbüchig. Here, continue on the "Öko Regio Tour" route passing through Wössingen to Walzbachtal. Coming from Bahnhofstrasse in Remchingen, take the second exit at the roundabout and follow Buchwald until you reach Singener Straße in Mutschelbach. Then turn right into Bergstraße and left into Bockstraße. Here you follow the "Black Forest cycle path" to Wilhelm-Roether-Strasse in Karlsbad-Langensteinbach. Turn right here, ride to the roundabout and take the first exit into Weinbrennerstraße. Continue to the next roundabout and take the first exit into Ettlinger Straße. Follow Ettlinger Straße to the end of the street. At the roundabout, take the first exit into Goethestrasse. After exit, turn immediately right. Follow the path along forests and fields until it leads to Hornisgrindestraße. Turn right into Merkurstraße. At the junction with Pforzheimerstraße, turn left. Follow Pforzheimerstraße towards Waldbronn. At the bend towards Stuttgarter Straße, turn right, then left into Busenbacher Straße. At the loop of Busenbacher Straße, turn left then immediately right to skirt the forest to the junction of Gisela-und-Hans-Ruland-Straße. Turn right onto Gisela-und-Hans-Ruland-Straße which continues into Bergstraße. Pass Albtherme Waldbronn. Continue to the next roundabout. Turn left into Talstraße and cross it until it ends as a forest path. Ride a bit and follow the forest path, then turn right at the first opportunity and continue to Railway Street. Turn left there. Descend the hill to the "Busenbach Bahnhof" S-Bahn stop. Cross the tracks here to continue along Pforzheimer Straße to Ettlingen city center. After Watthaldenpark, turn left into Albstrasse alongside the Alb river to the city center. Follow Albstraße to the intersection Albstraße/Kronenstraße/Marktstraße. Then turn left onto the town hall bridge, passing through the gate arch. From Ettlingen market square, follow the "Baden Wine Route cycle path" through Ettlingenweier, Oberweier, and Sulzbach to Malsch.
Upon arrival at Malsch, continue to follow the "Badischer Weinradweg" through Muggensturm to Rastatt-Rauental. In the village center, turn right onto Rastatter Straße and leave the "Badischer Weinradweg." Follow the road to Rastatt station, pass underneath it and reach the beautiful cultural square. Cross the square and turn left behind the Landratsamt near the bike service station towards the castle. If hungry, it’s worth a detour to Rastatt city center or a break in the park overlooking the baroque Favorit castle. Otherwise, turn left again into An der Ludwigsfeste street and follow the road to cross the Murg river and a few meters later the Gewerbekanal. Turn right onto Ritterstraße and immediately left onto the next street. Turn right onto Lützowerstraße and continue to Rastatt municipal park. Stay left in the park and continue parallel to Kehler Straße. Shortly before crossing the railway, turn right into the forest and cross the railway a few meters later. After a while, at the underpass on the left which should not be used, turn right and immediately left. Follow the path to Rastatt-Wintersdorf where it becomes Salmstraße. When the road turns right into the village, stay slightly left and take Eisenbahnstraße. At Dorfstraße, turn left, pass under the railway and continue straight through the roundabout along the cycle path parallel to the road. At the T-junction of B500, turn right towards the Iffezheim dam. Join the "Rhin Veloroute" and follow it south to Greffern. Cross the Rhine with the ferry and continue the route on the French side.
Cross the Franco-German border by the Drusenheim ferry. Continue along RD429. At the roundabout, follow the direction of Haguenau (IC 23 sign). Take the cycle path between Rohrwiller and Oberhoffen/Moder. Then between Oberhoffen and Kaltenhouse.
At Kaltenhouse, continue straight towards Haguenau. Follow IC 23 signs to Haguenau (cycle path).
At Haguenau, take Boulevard Hanauer and follow the "Gares" direction. Once at the station, follow SARREGUEMINES direction on RD263.
Follow ZA Route de Bitche direction and pass in front of Chocolaterie Stoeffel.
Follow Hundshof direction and IC 24/25 signs towards Betschdorf (bike lanes then forest roads). Turn right onto parking path. Follow Gros Chêne 2 direction (Krummstein forest road).
Once at Gros Chêne, continue to Betschdorf following IC 24/25 signs. Take Heuscheur forest road. At Carrefour Parade, continue towards Betschdorf following IC 24 signs.
At Betschdorf, turn right onto cycle path. At the Betschdorf swimming pool roundabout, turn left onto rue de l’avenir, then right onto rue de l’Eglise. Finally, turn right onto rue Principale (Grand-rue).
Before arriving at Rittershoffen, go straight along the farm path. Turn left onto rue de la gare. Then rue des Romains. Continue straight on the cycle path.
At Hatten, turn right towards Seltz. At the roundabout, continue towards Seltz (cycle route).
At Niederroedern industrial zone, turn right. At the roundabout, take direction Seltz (cycle path). At RD297 intersection, go straight towards Kesseldorf (cycle path).
At Kesseldorf main junction, continue towards Beinheim on RD87.
At Beinheim roundabout, take RD87 towards Roppenheim. Turn left onto rue de la Sauer. At the roundabout, take rue des pies, then rue de Saint-Louis and rue du foyer. Turn left after crossing the stream and then follow EuroVelo15 (EV15). Follow direction Lauterbourg to Lauterbourg (cycle path and shared route). Follow the Lauter side cycle path on the German side. Cross the border at Altenstadt and head towards Wissembourg city center along the cycle path (IC 51 sign). At the roundabout, follow town center direction (rue du Général Leclerc, then rue Eseler, Place du Marché aux Choux, right onto rue de l’Ange, right onto Quai des Frères, left onto rue des Dominicains, then right onto rue Bannacker towards Lycée Stanislas and Windhof in Germany). From Windhof, follow L546 via Schweighofen to Kapsweyer and here take the "Kraut- und Rüben-Radweg" (cabbage and beet cycle path).
You first ride east via Schaidt to Kandel. Continue on the "Kraut- und Rüben-Radweg." At Kandel, head north via Hayna, Herxheim to Offenbach, where you leave the "Kraut- und Rüben-Radweg" eastwards passing Ottersheim. At Bellheim, turn onto the Queicht valley cycle path to Germersheim. At Germersheim, turn right onto the "Rhin Veloroute" (EuroVelo 15), which leads directly south along the Rhine to Leimersheim and then to the border. After Leimersheim, turn right on the "Vom Riesling zum Zander" cycle path. Follow this route via Neupotz to Rheinzabern. At Rheinzabern, follow the main street to village exit. Then continue on the cycle path to Jockgrim. Ride on the main road through the village to the Jockmerg entrance with a supervised swimming lake. Then continue on the cycle path along L540 to Wörth. At Wörth, turn right, then left onto Ottostraße, then right onto Hartmannstraße. Then right on Rupprechtstraße, right again on Friedhofstraße and finally left on ForlacherStrasse. Here you rejoin the "Rhin Veloroute" (EuroVelo15), which you follow through Wörth to the Rhine bridge. From there, cross the bridge to join Karlsruhe, the starting point.
