The stage from Esztergom to Dobogókő begins beneath the towering basilica and soon leaves the Danube valley to climb into the wooded slopes of the Visegrád Hills. The ascent toward Vaskapu leads through open hillside land overlooking the river bend far below, marking the transition from the lowlands into the rugged Pilis landscape. From here, the trail continues through deep forest and rocky viewpoints on quiet mountain paths to Pilisszentlélek, a village known for the nearby ruins of a medieval Pauline monastery hidden among the trees. The final climb to Dobogókő follows cool forest tracks and mossy ridges, rising steadily to the highest point of the Pilis Mountains. At the summit, panoramic views open across the Danube Bend and the surrounding hills, marking the end of a stage that blends river panoramas, medieval monastic history, and the serene, forested heights of the Pilis.

    Roadbook

From Esztergom, the trail climbs into the Pilis Hills. At Vaskapu, a viewpoint overlooks the Danube bend and the town below, with the Basilica and castle visible beside the river. Further on, near Pilisszentlélek, stand the ruins of the Pauline monastery, founded in the Middle Ages in a secluded valley. Its remaining walls and foundations lie among the trees. The ascent continues to Dobogókő, one of the highest points in the Pilis range. From the summit, wide views extend over the Danube bend and the surrounding hills.
