Yellow 70 endurance hike, running distance
The endurance route and the running distance name indicate the longest distance of the event, which follows the yellow band marking that covers the Pilis and the Buda Hills between Esztergom and Budaörs. The unique feature of the route is that it takes place every year on the same day (May 1), with a mass start at midnight.
The long-established endurance hike Yellow 70 can be a challenging test or a warm-up run for those completing the three-digit distances. This hike is also considered the main rehearsal of the famous Kinizsi 100, regularly held in May.
The atmosphere of the 70-kilometer distance, starting with a night hike, is made special by the lights of Esztergom, the starry sky of Hegymeg, and headlamps scanning the darkness of the forest. After dawn, the panoramas play the main role: Fehér Hill, Zsíros Hill, Calvary Hill, Újlaki Hill, Nagy-Hárs Hill, Törökugrató, all offering great perspectives over the Pilis and Buda Hills. The hike passes through iconic locations including Pilisszentlélek, Pilis saddle, Klastrompuszta, Pilisvörösvár, Muflon watering place, Knotter's bench, Alsó-Jegenye valley, Virágos saddle, Hűvösvölgy, Szépjuhászné (Budaszentlőrinc), Csacsi meadow, Sorrento rocks, and Csíki hills.
During the run, you encounter natural values as well as cultural sights, but the 12-hour cut-off time leaves little time for sightseeing. With good strength and time management, it is a comfortably achievable hike, but “comfort” is primarily determined by one’s own physical capacity. Those who previously ran only 20-30 km distances are advised to start on some of the Yellow endurance hikes’ shorter sections (Yellow 70 walking, 50, 40, 30É, 20A, 20B, 15, 10).
Yellow 70 is part of the Five Trial competition series, the TTT Cup, the University hiking series, and the Cartographia Cup.
