Rhine and Roman Loop (formerly Rhine Loop for Connoisseurs)
Whether nature, culture, food, or drink, all of this can be enjoyed on this route through the South Palatinate. The Rhine with its floodplains, the "gourmet mile" Neupotz, and cultural treasures lie along the flat bike route.
PLEASURE CYCLING is key in the South Palatinate. On this flat and easy-to-ride bike route, you can experience the Germersheim district in many different facets. Near Germersheim is the brick museum, which tells about former brick production. You can dive into Roman times at the Terra-Sigillata museum in Rheinzabern. Near Neupotz, with some luck, you may see the original replica Roman ship Lusoria Rhenana on the old Rhine arm (as a group, you can also combine the bike route with a ride on the Roman ship). The town of Neupotz is also known for its numerous inns, where you can refresh with a delicious meal or a small snack. "Enjoying nature" is the motto as you ride along the Rhine, where you can experience the primeval floodplain landscape. Near Leimersheim, a small stop at the maize labyrinth is worthwhile, which is quickly accessible from the bike path. In Rülzheim, you can rest briefly at the Alla-Hopp facility or, if still energetic, have a great time on the playground equipment of the multigenerational facilities.
WATCH OUT! - Campaign for respectful coexistence in nature
- Be considerate on the road - Always behave considerately, friendly, and respectfully to everyone you meet on your way. This is especially important on agricultural paths, where winemakers, farmers, and foresters also work on weekends.
- Picnic & trash - Remember a waste bag for your journey and take your trash back home. Use only the furnished rest areas for breaks and picnics.
- Nature protection - Stay on the designated paths and avoid unnecessary noise when you are in nature. Leave the forest by dusk at the latest to not disturb the rhythm of nocturnal animals.

Safety information
Cycling on agricultural paths - Our bike routes often run on paths shared with others. We therefore ask for considerate and friendly behavior at all times. Winemakers, farmers, and foresters use these agricultural paths through fields, forests, and vineyards for their daily work - even on weekends. Due to work activities and/or weather, the paths may sometimes be more soiled. Special caution is also required when crossing streets in and around Palatinate towns. Road closures and detours must be strictly observed.
Danger situations - In an emergency, quick help is needed. Although mobile phones can send GPS signals, the classic rescue points often provide the fastest aid. These are located where rescue vehicles can easily access. Remember the points with green signs and a white cross. In an emergency, return to these points and give the number on the sign when you call for help. This way, rescuers will know where to find you.

Roadbook
From the Rülzheim recreational center, where the Alla-Hopp facility and the beach pool are located, we ride towards the town center via the street "Alte Mühlgasse." We turn right into Mittlere Ortsstraße and then immediately right again into Hoppelgasse heading towards the cemetery. Behind the cemetery, we continue on the bike path along L 540. We follow this all the way to Rheinzabern. At the town entrance, turn right into "Neun Morgen" street, then into Bahnhofstraße and finally turn left into Mühlgasse and Hauptstraße. We follow Hauptstraße and ride on the bike path to Jockgrim. At the entrance to Jockgrim, turn right into Buchstraße. We follow this street straight ahead until we arrive back at Jockgrim station. From the station, we ride into Bahnhofstraße, then turn right into Gartenstraße. At the end of Gartenstraße, turn left into Ziegelbergstraße and come back onto Bahnhofstraße. We follow Bahnhofstraße, which turns into Ludwigstraße after a right curve. About 100 m after the right curve, turn left down a small street towards the Johanneswiese gravel lake. Passing by the gravel lake, at the end of the street, turn left onto the agricultural path heading towards the Rhine. Over a bridge, we cross the B9 and finally reach a bike crossing where we turn left. Always riding along the dike, just before the old Rhine branch, turn left towards Neupotz. At the end of the path, turn right towards the anglers' clubhouse, which is a good spot for a stop and a small snack. We then ride left into Neupotz. In Neupotz at the intersection Friedhofstraße/Am Otterbach, we join the Riesling-Zander bike path (logo Zander with wine glass). We turn right onto "Am Otterbach" street and follow the Riesling-Zander bike path out of Neupotz until the Rhine bike path (blue sign with cyclist). Then we ride on the Rhine bike path towards Germersheim. Shortly after the PWV lock house, turn left towards Sondernheim. Via Rheinstraße, Gartenstraße, and Hördtstraße, we reach the bike path along L 552 towards Hördt. Before Hördt, we join the Klingbach bike path (green sign with bell). We follow the Klingbach bike path back to Rülzheim. In Rülzheim, we leave the Klingbach bike path at Eisenbahnstraße, which turns into the street "Am Deutschordensplatz." At the end of the street, turn right into Mittlere Ortsstraße. Then turn left again into Alte Mühlgasse back to the recreational center, our starting point of the route.
