Jockgrim Art Trail

The art trail in picturesque Jockgrim has its roots in the international sculpture symposium. The sculpture symposium was organised and held by Professor Karl-Heinz Deutsch – an artist and sculptor of international renown extending beyond Jockgrim, who was made an honorary citizen of our community in 2020. Ten sculptors from five European countries worked here in the summer of 1989 and created ten sculptures on the site of what was once the largest brickworks in Europe. Today it is the Bürgerpark. This laid the foundation stone for Jockgrim Art Trail ("Jockgrimer Kunstweg"). Jockgrim was known as an artists' village long before then. The reputation of the artists living and working here was significantly influenced by people such as the painter Albert Haueisen, who is also an honorary citizen of our community. Thanks to the commitment of the local community of Jockgrim and its art-loving citizens and the Zehnthaus art association, further works of art have found their place at various locations in Jockgrim since then. In 2014, two loans from the internationally renowned sculptor Franz Bernhard, who lived and worked in Jockgrim until his death in 2013, provided a temporary highlight. The Zehnthaus Association and the Ecumenical Working Group for Art and Church initiated the Jockgrim Art Path in order to bring this collection, which has now grown to 19 works of art, out of its shadowy existence and raise awareness of it among all citizens. This project was possible thanks to the support of the municipality of Jockgrim and other sponsors.
