The Weißenburger Tor, today's symbol of the city, is one of the two city gates designed by Munich professor Friedrich von Gärtner and built in 1839.
The Weißenburger Tor is one of the two former city gates of the Germersheim fortress dating back to 1839 and is now home to the culture, tourism and visitor centre, as well as an interesting permanent exhibition on the history of the fortress. In addition to the ticket service, this is also the starting point for exciting guided tours of the town and fortress, as well as enjoyable fortress wine tastings. Above the entrance to the Weißenburg Gate is the Bavarian coat of arms, which is enthroned between two lions carved in sandstone.
