The varied route follows the course of the Queich from its source near Hauenstein to its mouth at the Rhine.
From the source near Hauenstein in the Palatinate Forest, past idyllic vineyards of the German Wine Route, to the Rhine plain, where the Queich flows into the Rhine, the route passes through diverse landscapes. Stop in Annweiler to visit the Trifels imperial castle, stroll through the city of Landau, the southern Palatinate metropolis, or watch storks searching for food in the Queich meadows, which are flooded twice a year with Queich water for irrigation. This tradition of Queich meadow irrigation makes a significant contribution to the biological diversity of the cultural landscape. UNESCO has also declared it an intangible cultural heritage of humanity. Then enjoy the shady stretch through the Bellheim Forest and admire the fortress buildings of the city of Germersheim. The tour ends wonderfully with a rest at the Rhine, watching passing ships.
INFO: The cycle path will get new signage in 2025. Please don't be surprised if you encounter two different logos on the route, as shown in the pictures.
UFFBASSE! – Campaign for considerate coexistence in nature
- Act considerately – Always behave predictively, kindly, and considerately towards everyone you meet on the way. This applies especially on agricultural roads, where winegrowers, farmers and foresters also work on weekends.
- Picnic & rubbish – Remember a rubbish bag for the way and take waste back home. Use only the furnished rest areas for breaks and picnics.
- Nature conservation – Stay on the designated paths and avoid unnecessary noise when you are in nature. Leave the forest at the latest at dusk to avoid disturbing the rhythm of nocturnal animals.

Safety information
Cycling on agricultural roads – Our cycling routes often run over paths shared with others. Therefore, we ask for considerate and friendly behavior at all times. Winegrowers, farmers and foresters use the agricultural roads through fields, forests and vineyards for their daily work – even on weekends. Due to work assignments and/or weather conditions, the paths can sometimes be dirtier. Special caution is also necessary when carrying paths over roads in and around Palatinate towns. Road closures and detours must be strictly observed.
Danger situations – If there is an emergency, quick help is needed. And even though phones can send GPS signals, classic rescue points are often the fastest. These are located at places that are easily accessible for rescue vehicles. Remember the points with the green signs and a white cross. In an emergency, return there and give the number on the sign in your emergency call. This way, rescue workers know where to find you.

Roadbook
From Hauenstein, the developed cycle path leads downhill through the idyllic Queich valley via Wilgartswiesen to Rinnthal. In the town, the cycle path changes to a roadside cycle path alongside the country road, via Sarnstall to Annweiler am Trifels. Here the path runs right through the historic old town of the picturesque little town. Explore the imposing favorite castle of Emperor Barbarossa here.
The Trifels, the most noble imperial fortress of the Staufer period, stands above Annweiler and gained fame as a medieval state prison for the English King Richard the Lionheart. Afterwards, you cycle further along the old B 10 on a developed cycle path to Queichhambach, then a stretch on the country road to Albersweiler and then again on a cycle path to the pretty wine village of Siebeldingen. From here, the route always follows the Queich via Godramstein to Landau. The path leads through the lively shopping and university town to the La Ola leisure pool, the ultimate feel-good meeting point of the southern Palatinate.
Whether in the refreshing wave pool, the warm thermal pool, or the sauna area – the leisure pool is the ideal place to take a break and recharge your energy. After that, it continues cheerfully via Offenbach and the Neumühle to the Ottersheim division weir. Here, with a bit of luck, you can spot magnificent storks in the near-natural Queich meadows.
Turn right there and follow the forest path. After 400 m, turn left at the next fork onto the forest educational trail. On the forest trail, it goes along the Spiegelbach to the Knittelsheim mill. Continue towards Bellheim, cross the country road and cycle along the northern edge of Bellheim to the playground at the Schützenhaus. There turn left and follow the path about 800 m north to the forest boundary. After a further 500 m, turn right and follow the path to the country road. Here you can take a detour north to the Holzmühle, where there is a small café and an interesting private exhibition.
Without detours, cycle along the forest edge a short way south and then left towards east to the town of Germersheim on the Rhine. On the way there, take the underpass of the B9 and turn right. Immediately afterwards, turn left at the barracks entrance and pass the large car park as well as the South Palatinate barracks. Follow the cycle path straight ahead to a roundabout. Continue straight on the cycle path to the next roundabout. At the second roundabout, crossing still on the cycle path, change the road side at the grocery store (Serpa market) and continue straight over the roundabout. Pass the German Red Cross and continue straight ahead, also over the third roundabout continuing straight. Into Josef-Probst-Strasse. Follow the road and turn right onto Richthofen-Strasse, then turn left into the street "An der Stengelkaserne" and continue straight. Turn left into Klosterstrasse, following the road you come to Ludwigsring and turn right into Zeughausstrasse. Here you pass the German Road Museum. The only one nationwide that deals with the history of roads and road construction. The street continues into Rudolf-von-Habsburg-Strasse. You come to the next roundabout where you take the second exit and reach the underpass of the S-Bahn station. Continue straight ahead, past the Rhenania inn into Werftstrasse and turn right, where you arrive at the end of the tour below the Rhine bridge B35 on the street "Alte Schiffsbrückenstraße".
In Germersheim, it's worth lingering a little longer. On a guided tour through the historic fortress complex, underground mine galleries and park-like parade grounds, the extraordinary city will fascinate you! Or let yourself be enchanted by a ride with the electric boat through the primeval-like Rhine floodplains.
