The Germersheim Town and Fortress Museum is one of the largest of its kind in the region. It primarily documents the history of the town.
With 45 rooms, the Germersheim Town and Fortress Museum is one of the largest of its kind in the region. Above all, it documents the history of the town. Because Germersheim was a fortress town for a long time, from 1834 onwards, and is still a military town today, this is also reflected in the exhibits: fortress construction plans, uniforms, weapons and military equipment are on display. A detailed model of the former fortress is also impressive. The museum also provides insights into old crafts such as cigar rolling, shoemaking, book printing and binding, blacksmithing and schnapps distilling. Fishing and shipping are also presented, as well as the important production of enamel signs, which was based in Germersheim for a long time. Other topics include hunting, club and church history.
