Water routes in the Leipzig New Lake District
Many of the bodies of water in the so-called "Neuseenland" are connected to the tourist waterway network. This consists of natural waterways that connect the cultural city of Leipzig with the surrounding lakes - the ideal infrastructure for routes by canoe or rowing boat.
Numerous lakes in Leipziger Neuseenland have also been awarded for their water quality. Thanks to the shallow sandy beaches, they are also perfect for swimming.

On the road by bike - cycling in the Leipzig region
A special recommendation for your cycling excursion is the Mulde cycle path: on the approximately 230 km long route through the fairytale river landscape, you will get to know historic castles and pretty small towns.
You can discover the history of the mining and industrial tradition on the Neuseenland route or on the KOHLE | DAMPF | LICHT cycle route. The former open-cast mining landscape has been transformed into a beautiful lake region around Leipzig in recent years.
Fruit growing also has a long tradition in the region: the 58 km long Obstland cycle route takes you to picturesque orchards and small farm stores where you can stop for a bite to eat and do some shopping.

Good on foot - hiking trails in the Leipzig region
The Heide-Biber-Tour quality hiking trail (route length approx. 30 km) leads through the unique landscape of the Düben Heath and Hammerbach Valley. With a bit of luck, you can observe beavers in their natural habitat.
On hot summer days, extensive forest areas such as the Dahlen Heath and the Wermsdorf Forest offer shady relaxation.
Rich regional cultural history
Follow in the footsteps of famous personalities such as Martin Luther or Elisabeth von Rochlitz and explore the places where they lived and worked, such as Rochlitz, Torgau or Bad Düben.
The long industrial and mining tradition is also omnipresent in the Leipzig region. A popular excursion destination is the open-air exhibition in the Mining Technology Park with original large-scale open-cast mining equipment. The narrow-gauge railroad "Wilder Robert" is already 125 years old and still runs between Oschatz, Mügeln and Glossen. In Döbeln, you can also ride the unique historic horse-drawn streetcar through the town center.
