Nature and lakes
The urban area is surrounded by a series of recultivated open-cast mining lakes, which have become valuable natural and recreational areas in recent decades. Lake Werbelin to the south of the town is one of the most ecologically significant lakes in the region and is known for its diversity of birds. Circular paths lead close to the shore through open landscapes and sparse forest areas, although some sections are not accessible for nature conservation reasons, which preserves the quiet, protected atmosphere of the area. Lake Neuhaus to the west of Delitzsch is also a popular destination for walks, short hikes and nature-related excursions. The paths are mostly flat and easy to walk on, ideal for relaxed tours.
Hiking and cycling around Delitzsch
For cyclists, Delitzsch offers a good starting point for an extensive network of regional routes. The Torgische Radweg, which connects Torgau and Delitzsch, is particularly important and runs for around 67 kilometers through villages steeped in history, agricultural areas and tranquil woodland and moorland. There are also attractive connections to the large lake landscapes around the Goitzsche near Bitterfeld, whose extensive lakeside paths and viewpoints are suitable for extended day trips. Hikers will find gentle terrain around Delitzsch, largely with few inclines, which allows for varied and easily planned routes through natural and cultural landscapes.
