From the Forest Market to Nagy-Kopasz
Types of paths
- single-track trail
- regular dirt road
- gravel road
Energy management
The run starts with a continuous, steady ascent of 250 meters over the first 3.5 km: prepare yourself mentally and with a thorough warm-up for this.
Recommended time
Can be completed at any time of day. Most of the route is wooded and shady, so it remains pleasant even in strong sunshine.
Our trail running section is supported by Dockyard. The route is recommended by legendary Csaba Németh, Hungary's most successful active trail runner.
Author’s recommendation
- If you want to go up to the top of the Csergezán Pál lookout (recommended), it is worth bringing a windbreaker for the run, as the possibly cold wind will cool you down right at the top of the longest climb of the running loop.
- If you want to learn something, part of the route coincides with the Sisakvirág nature trail, touching five out of the eight stations.

Safety information
- Most of the route is soft forest soil, which turns into a muddy stream during rainy periods, after heavy rain, or when snow melts. This not only greatly complicates running but also poses a serious risk of slipping and falling on the steeper descending sections.

Itinerary
- We start from the parking lot on the forest dirt road marked with Z▲, running all the way to the lookout tower.
- From the lookout, we continue on an unmarked, steeply descending single-track path starting on its left side, at the end of which we return to the Z▲ marking.
- Lower down, at a junction, we leave the left-descending Z▲ marking; from here, we run for 2 km on unmarked paths.
- After the unmarked section, we join the P marking, which we follow for one and a half kilometers, then turn right onto the P▲ trail, which we follow for another 3 km.
- At the end of the P▲ section, we close the loop and return to the Z▲ marking, descending back to the forestry lodge on the previously known uphill section.
Detailed description of the run
We start from the parking lot of the forestry lodge on the Z▲ marked forest dirt road, which first slopes gently and then more steeply but continuously ascends. After approximately 2 km and a few sharp turns, we reach the dolomite rock grasslands (Sisakvirág nature trail station 7), from where, thanks to the sparse vegetation, there is a beautiful view to the south. Immediately upon leaving the forest, there is a viewpoint to the right, but it is worth running a bit further and also going right to the Szépkilátás ridge.
After the rock grasslands, remaining on the Z▲ marking, we run again through the forest to the Csergezán Pál lookout, where it is definitely worth running up for the summit experience and the panoramic view – technically interested people will appreciate the modern and visually striking structure of the building. Afterwards, we continue on an unmarked, single-track path starting on the left side of the lookout, which initially is narrow, rocky, and steeply descending, requiring attention in wet weather. At the end of the unmarked, straight section, we return to the Z▲ marking.
We continue descending gently until below, after Sisakvirág nature trail station 3, at a junction (km 5), we leave the left-descending Z▲ marking and continue right on unmarked paths for 2 km. Multiple junctions follow on this stretch, so pay attention to navigation! By now, we hear the sounds of Nagykovácsi nearby but not visible due to trees, and we pass by a rock with a copper plaque placed in memory of forester Pál Szabó.
After the unmarked section, we join the P marking (km 7), which we follow for one and a half kilometers, then turn right onto the P▲ marking and continue along our loop for another 3 km.
At the end of the P▲ section, at the downy oak forest (Sisakvirág nature trail station 6), we close the loop and return to the Z▲ marking. Passing the rock grasslands, we descend back to the forestry lodge on the previously known uphill section.
