Mediterranean running atmosphere in the Buda Hills
Route types
- single-track path
- normal dirt road
- gravel road
- asphalt
Energy management
The run has a 'U' shape profile: it starts with a 2 km descent, then continues flat for 7 km, and finally the last 3 km includes a 220 m elevation gain between the lowest and highest points, so reserve energy for this part.
Recommended period
Can be completed at any time of day. Mostly shaded, but the most open section is also a steep climb, which can be quite exhausting in hot weather.
Our trail running section is supported by Dockyard. The route is recommended by the legendary Csaba Németh, Hungary’s most successful active trail runner.
Author’s recommendation
- At the Csillebérc, KFKI bus stop there is a blue push-pump which can be useful both at the start and finish. However, keep in mind that it only operates from late spring to autumn.
- Remember that most of the route passes through a strictly protected area, so do not leave the marked path under any circumstances!

Detailed description of the run
From the bus terminus, we start on the asphalt road leading into the forest; about 50 meters after leaving the KFKI fence, we turn right onto the single-track path marked S+, which after about 200 meters joins the S trail. From here, we continue running along this path, still on a trail with occasional normal dirt road sections. We descend for about 1.5 km, then a short but steep climb follows, with root-covered and partly rocky ground, before reaching the Sorrento Rocks. These stand in a charming pine grove, made of jagged dolomite blocks, and from the viewpoint here, only the blue glimmering Mediterranean Sea is missing below us.
From Sorrento, we continue running for about 4 km on a comfortable forest trail along the S marking, from which we branch onto the S▲ path leading up to Huszonnégyökrös Hill.
Huszonnégyökrös Hill is the turnaround point of our run, offering a beautiful view north towards Farkashegy airfield and Budakeszi, and south towards Törökbálint and the M7 motorway. From here, we return along the already known route to the intersection with Felsőszállás Street, where we continue on a new trail. On Felsőszállás Street, a short asphalt section awaits, then at the end, turning onto Meggy Street and the S+ marking, a gravel road starts. This is also the lowest point of our run route; from here, over the next 3 km, we will continuously and intensely ascend 220 m.
At the upper section of Meggy Street, we turn left onto the P+ path, which after a short single-track forest section becomes a gravel road. This leads up to Farkas Hill. After passing the Sailplane Monument, a rocky section that tests the soles follows, lasting until the barrier at the forest entrance.
From the barrier, we enter the forest, continuing to ascend on the single-track P+ path, passing several pictorial brick cavities preserved in the area, where paint base material used to be mined. The path widens into a forest road in the upper section. We reach the highest point of our run beside the Csillebérc riding hall, from where the road descends towards the nearby bus terminus.
