The Malom Kör, as an individually completable "instant" circular route, invites participants to the Börzsöny for a short (10+), a medium-length (20 km), and a longer (30 km) distance. The tours can be completed running or walking, and passing the checkpoints can be verified by scanning QR codes. The tour is named after the Malom-völgyi stream along the route. The start and finish are located at the picturesque Zebegény, at the Monarchia Rétesház. The organizers aimed to provide visitors with fairy-tale scenery and varied, exciting terrain by carefully planning the routes. The trail goes through a nature conservation area, so it is forbidden to leave the designated hiking trails. It is advisable to check hunting dates before departure on the IpolyErdő website.

    Organizer:

    Technical information:

    • Smartphone and mobile internet subscription necessary for completion.
    • More participants can start with one phone; on the mobile interface, after scanning the QR code, additional finishers (based on the code number received during registration) can be added. The recorded time of checkpoint touch will then be the same for all participants.
    • In the "My Tours" menu, after pressing the "start" button on the current registration data, the tour data, elapsed time, and the number of QR-coded checkpoints related to the tour will appear on the phone.
    • The placed codes can be read automatically by pressing the “QR code” icon (holding the phone camera over the code). It is important to allow browser access to the camera in the phone’s settings/apps menu.
    • It may happen that there is no mobile internet access at the point where the QR code is located. In this case, still scan the code and continue. The app will remember it, and when internet access is available, after pressing the "Offline refresh" button, the system will record the successful checkpoint touch. It is very important not to refresh the webpage after scanning the QR code, as the temporary file indicating the checkpoint will be deleted. If you have problems, feel free to call the organizers at +36 20 264 1721.

    Procedure for completion:

    • The mobile interface linked to the Malomkör website includes a built-in QR code reader, so it is not necessary to install a separate QR code reader application. You must touch the points in the specified order and follow the designated route. Arriving after the time limit or skipping points will result in the name appearing as "withdrawn" or "over time limit" on the results board.
    • If you registered as a runner but miss the running time limit for any reason, yet finish within the hiking time limit for the given distance, you can choose either to be classified as an unsuccessful runner (you may try two more times in this case) or as a successful hiker, receiving the medal and the pastry and being listed as a hiker in the results.
    • After successfully finishing, you will receive a 4-digit code by email, which opens one of the "honor system" medal holders built into the Malomkör tourist column.

    Itinerary:

    • Start from the starting point on the Z marking towards the village.
    • After Mókus Pub, turn left and follow the S↺ marking to the Kós Károly lookout.
    • Switch to the K+ marking and follow it all the way to Köves-mező.
    • From here, the K marking leads through the Szent Mihály Hill.
    • At the trail junction at the saddle, switch to the S marking, then shortly after to the S+ marking.
    • This leads back to the edge of Zebegény, then turn right to follow the S● marking.
    • After the climb, the S↺ marking leads back to the Kós Károly lookout, and from there, return to the starting point by the known route.

    Detailed route description:

After scanning the start QR code on the route signboard in front of the Rétesház, start walking on Kossuth Lajos Street towards the village center, then at Mókus Pub (300 m) turn left into Szőnyi Street. Continue, then (20 m) turn left towards the Trianon memorial and proceed on the S↺ marking, uphill on the cobblestone sidewalk. After 600 m, crossing the Trianon memorial, continue right on the S↺ marking. After leaving the Kós Károly lookout, at the crossroads change to the K+ marking and continue straight. Follow the K+ marking in Szeder Valley, passing a stone cross located directly to the right next to the path (3.3 km), then exiting the forest you arrive at Köves-mező (1st checkpoint, 3.3 km). The QR code is mounted slightly to the right matching your direction of travel on the backside of the route signpost pole, and the backup code is slightly to the left from your direction of travel, mounted on the backside of the "Nagymarosi Gesztenyés Nature Trail" informational board about 100 meters towards Visegrád Castle.

Turn right from the previous route on the K marking, enter the forest, and continue towards Hegyes-tető. Exiting the forest (500 m), turn right, then after 15 meters turn left into the forest. Exiting the forest (500 m) again turn right, then after 100 meters at the Y junction turn left. Continue uphill on the K marking to Hegyes-tető. You will shortly reach the Julianus barát lookout; if you have time, climb up and enjoy the stunning view. From the top of the lookout, you have a unique view not only of the Danube but also of the inner parts of Börzsöny! Leaving the lookout behind, continue on the K marking towards Szent Mihály Hill, and after 700 meters, going straight, switch to the S marking, from which after 400 meters turn right onto the S+ marking. Be careful on the steep rocky path! Note that the S+ marking goes right downhill after 1 km. After 1 km, leaving the route to the left, you will find a lookout point and rest area, where the 2nd checkpoint is also located (8.1 km). The QR code is placed inside the wooden house on the rafter above, and the backup code is on the right side of the wooden house, also inside the roof structure.

Return to the S+ marking and continue downhill. After 1.3 km, turn right onto the S● marking and proceed through Bodzás Valley until you reach Ernő spring (3rd checkpoint, 10.1 km). The QR code is attached to the back leg of the nearer log bench, and the backup code is on the back leg of the log bench at the spring. Attention! Mobile internet may not be available at this point, but still scan the code and continue. When internet access returns, press the Offline refresh button, and the system will record the successful checkpoint touch. It is very important not to refresh the webpage after scanning the QR code, as the temporary file indicating the checkpoint will be deleted.

Return to the S● marking and proceed uphill on the serpentine path, then (600 m) proceed straight crossing a path, switching to the S↺ marking. After 1.3 km, the S↺ marking turns right, then left towards the Kós Károly lookout. Continue on the S↺ marking. The cobblestone road on the left side of the Trianon memorial leads down to Zebegény. At the end of the cobblestone road, go straight (20 m), then at Mókus Pub turn right into Kossuth Lajos Street on the Z marking, and after 300 m you arrive at the Rétesház on the left side of the road. Scanning the finish QR code on the already known route signboard you will successfully complete the 12.8 km distance. Congratulations!
