Julianus lookout tower (Hegyes tető)
You can reach the tower by a 4 km long walk from either Zebergény or Nagymaros. A surprising experience is guaranteed for tourists visiting the first time because the 270 degree panorama is dominated by the Danube river. In the west we can look towards Slovakia, in the south to Dömös and Visegrád Mountains, in the east to Visegrád and Vác. In front of us the neighbouring Szent-Mihály-hill sprawls in dignity. Opposite the Salamon-tower and the Citadel of Visegrád catches the eye. Beside the highest peak of Börzsöny hill, the lookout tower of Csóványos also can be seen in clear weather.
The bastion like, two-storey tower named after a monk (who researched our nation’s origin in Asia) was built in 1939 by the famous Encián Tourist Association. It was renovated in 2011 by Ipoly Erdő Zrt. Since then it has been safe again and open to visitors. Its spiral stairs are very narrow and steep.
Törökmező nature trail connects the tower to Törökmező. If you are interested in the work of foresters, the wildlife of South Börzsöny and a travel back in time it is worth taking the Green T (ZT) trail, a spectacular, easy and informative path.
