On this flat cycle route, you can discover and experience the expanse of the Queich meadows, the primeval-like plant world of the Rhine floodplains, historic buildings, and enchanted gardens.
Right at the start of the route between Bellheim and Zeiskam, you might be lucky to observe storks on nests or searching for food in the nearby Queich meadows. The Queich meadow irrigation in the Southern Palatinate is part of the traditional irrigation in Europe and has been declared Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO. Twice a year, the meadows are flooded with water from the Queich and its tributaries. Near Westheim, a short detour to the south is worthwhile. At the Hofgut Holzmühle, located in the middle of the Bellheim forest, you experience an oasis of tranquility in a beautifully designed garden. The fortress in Germersheim impresses with its well-preserved buildings and gates. On a tour, you can discover history up close. From the viewing platform on the Rhine embankment, you have the best view of passing ships. For a short break, the rest house near the Sondernheim brickyard is recommended. On the Rhine Cycle Path heading south, you get a touch of the Amazon here, immersing yourself in the primeval landscape of the Rhine floodplains. Leaving the "primeval forest," you head back towards Bellheim. But before cycling back to the starting point, you should enjoy a freshly tapped beer at the local "Bärenbräu" brewery in Ottersheim and reflect on the eventful trip.
UFFBASSE! - Campaign for considerate coexistence in nature
- Be considerate on your journey - Always behave proactively, kindly, and considerately toward everyone you meet on the way. This especially applies to agricultural roads that winemakers, farmers, and foresters also use on weekends for their work.
- Picnic & trash - Remember a garbage bag for the way and take waste back home. Use only furnished rest areas for breaks and picnics.
- Nature conservation - Stay on designated paths and avoid unnecessary noise when you are in nature. Leave the forest by dusk at the latest to avoid disturbing the rhythm of nocturnal animals.

The Southern Palatinate can be enjoyed with all senses best by shopping at the farm shops along the route. And the regional delicacies taste best during a break directly by the Rhine.

Safety information
Cycling on agricultural roads - Our cycle routes often run on paths shared with others. We therefore ask for considerate and friendly cooperation at all times. Winemakers, farmers, and foresters use the agricultural paths through fields, forests, and vineyards for their daily work—even on weekends. Due to work operations and/or weather conditions, the paths can sometimes be heavily soiled. Special caution is also required when crossing roads in and around Palatinate towns. Road closures and detours must be strictly observed.
Danger situations - In case of an emergency, quick help is essential. Even though mobile phones can send GPS signals, the classic rescue points are often the fastest option. These are located at places that are easily accessible to emergency vehicles. Remember the points with green signs and a white cross. In an emergency, return there and give the number on the sign when calling for help. This way, rescue workers will know where to find you.

Roadbook
From the parking lot at the Schützenhaus, we first ride along the Queichtal Cycle Path (white sign with green bicycle and the inscription Queich) along the edge of the forest past the war memorial towards L 540. When reaching L540, we follow the Kraut-und-Rüben Cycle Path (carrot logo) towards Zeiskam. We follow this cycle path through Zeiskam, Lustadt, and Weingarten until we reach Schwegenheim. In Schwegenheim, turn right on the street "Am Bahndamm" after the sports field. We ride along "Am Jahnplatz" street, cross the main road, and then travel south out of Schwegenheim through the fields via "Riedgasse" and "Alte Landauer Straße." After crossing the B272, turn left and then right, always following the agricultural path along the B9 until we reach the main road in Westheim. Turn left on the main road, cross the tracks of the draisine railway, and continue straight ahead heading south. At the town exit, we take the roadside cycle path and reach the Hofgut Holzmühle. Here you can visit the fantastic garden and the private collection that takes visitors on a journey to distant cultures. Afterwards, we continue towards Bellheim. Before Bellheim, we join the Queichtal Cycle Path (green logo with bicycle and inscription Queichtal). We follow this, cross the country road, and proceed on the path to Germersheim. Continuing along the Queichtal Cycle Path, we ride through Germersheim. We pass the City and Fortress Museum and in Zeughausstraße, we meet the Rhine Cycle Path (blue sign with cyclist). This Rhine Cycle Path, also called EuroVelo15, we follow through Germersheim, past the Brick Museum and the lock house near Sondernheim. Behind the lock house, turn right onto the Klingbach Cycle Path (green sign with bell). We follow the Klingbach Cycle Path through Hördt to Rülzheim. At the town exit of Rülzheim, we leave the Klingbach Cycle Path and turn right onto the small hill, following the Tobacco Route (green sign with tobacco plant) towards Bellheim. We follow the Tobacco Route from Bellheim via Knittelsheim to Ottersheim. In Ottersheim, we leave the Tobacco Route and instead follow the Kraut-und-Rüben Cycle Path into Waldstraße. We follow Waldstraße, passing the Ottersheimer Bärenbräu, an ideal stop for cyclists to recharge with a short break. Afterwards, we leave the town along Waldstraße. At the Old Farmers' Barn, we join the Queichtal Cycle Path. We follow this into the forest and reach the Ottersheim division weir. The local Queich meadow irrigation, for which the division weir is used, has been listed by UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage. The route continues on the Queichtal Cycle Path through the forest, past the Knittelsheim mill, back to Bellheim to our starting point at the Schützenhaus.
