Lovely family route through the Bellheim forest, fields and meadows, the Hördt Rhine floodplain, and Germersheim.
The varied cycling route in the South Palatinate has no major climbs and is therefore well suited for family outings. The route runs through the Bellheim recreational area, along the Rhine floodplains, and along the Rhine. It passes through the towns of Bellheim, Rülzheim, Hördt, and the fortress town of Germersheim, which offers numerous dining options and sights for a stop along the way. If you cannot complete the entire route or do not want to ride it, you have the option to return to Germersheim by train from Bellheim or Rülzheim.
UFFBASSE! - Campaign for considerate coexistence in nature
- Be considerate - Always behave considerately, kindly, and considerately towards everyone you meet along the way. This is especially true on farm roads where winemakers, farmers, and foresters also work on weekends.
- Picnic & waste - Remember a garbage bag for the road and take waste back home with you. Use only the furnished rest areas for breaks and picnics.
- Nature conservation - Stay on designated paths and avoid unnecessary noise when you are in nature. Leave the forest at dusk at the latest to avoid disturbing nocturnal animals.

The impressive fortress buildings in Germersheim are visible all around the town. On a fortress tour, you can explore the old impressive military buildings even better.

Safety information
Cycling on farm roads - Our cycling routes often run along paths shared with others. We therefore ask for always considerate and friendly behavior. Winemakers, farmers, and foresters use the farm roads through fields, forests, and vineyards for their daily work – also on weekends. Due to work operations and/or weather conditions, the paths may sometimes be more heavily soiled. Special caution is advised when crossing roads in and around Palatinate villages. Road closures and detours must be strictly observed.
Danger situations - In an emergency, quick help is needed. And although mobile phones can send GPS signals, classic rescue points are often the fastest. These are located at places that are easily accessible to rescue vehicles. Remember the points with the green signs and a white cross. In an emergency, return there and provide the number on the sign when you call for help. This way, rescue forces will know where to find you.

Roadbook
First, head along Bahnhofstraße towards the city center to Ludwigsring, and then onto the Queichtal cycle path. Now we cycle past Ludwigstor, where the Local History and Fortress Museum is located. The Queichtal cycle path continues through Sondernheim, turning onto Jungholzstraße and Maiblumenstraße, and goes on to the city outskirts into the forest. At the B9, we take the underpass and continue cycling through the forest to the country road. Here, we turn right onto the cycle path heading north. Here you can also make a detour north to the Holzmühle. There awaits an interesting private exhibition, with exhibits from distant countries as well as an impressively designed garden with peacocks and both native and non-native plants. Without the detour, after about 500 m, we turn left into the forest, following the Queichtal cycle path, and after another 2 km turn left towards Bellheim to the adventure playground. Afterwards, we continue until we reach the country road. Here we leave the Queichtal cycle path and turn left to the roundabout. We continue past the swimming park to the main street. We cross it and then turn left onto the Tobacco route, which we now follow across the fields to Rülzheim. At the town entrance, we cross the railway crossing and join the Klingbach cycle path, which we follow through Rülzheim to Hördt and further towards Germersheim. We ride through the Hochwald heading east until we meet the Rhine cycle path. Passing the lock house, the Rhine cycle path leads us back to Germersheim. Here, we follow the signs back to the starting point at Germersheim station.
