The "Schanze" is a historic site and reminds to the war war of succession between the empire of Austria and the monarchies of France, Britan and Prussia in 1748. Until 1820 it still existed. Afterwards the trech was used for the mill close to the "Schanze".
In 2008 it was restored based on archiological sience and historical maps. It was part of so called "Queichlinien". Queich is a small river and connects the both main fortress cities Landau and Germersheim.
