The Castle Route passes by castles and rocks, meadows and fields, offering magnificent views over the Palatinate Forest and into the Rhine Plain.
You start the route at Markwardanlage, initially cycling through the romantic old town of Annweiler along the small river Queich. At Trifelsbad the route briefly turns onto Zweibrückerstraße, then runs alongside the road to Sarnstall and Rinnthal. Behind Rinnthal the route goes under the B10 and follows the forest edge to Wilgartswiesen. Below the ruins of Falkenburg, it leads into the shoe village of Hauenstein.
From Hauenstein you cycle through woodland and meadows to Lug and Völkersweiler, then continue through the Kaiserbach valley with Waldrohrbach and Waldhambach to the Southern Wine Route. Following the Wine Route, you ride to Eschbach and Leinsweiler. There the route turns back into the Palatinate Forest. After a challenging climb to the Slevogthof, it then goes comfortably through the forest back to Annweiler am Trifels.
From Zollstock a detour to Trifels Castle is possible; however, it is recommended to leave the bikes at the Schlossäcker parking lot.
WATCH OUT! - Campaign for considerate co-existence in nature
- Always behave in a foresighted, friendly, and considerate manner towards everyone you meet on the way.
- Respect nature, do not destroy plants, and always stay on the paths. Try to avoid excessive noise and leave the forest before dusk.
- Carry a garbage bag for the way and take waste home with you.
- Always keep your dog on a leash. Other visitors and animals will thank you.
- Observe all path closures for your own safety, even on weekends.
- Park only in designated parking lots. Leave space for rescue vehicles and agricultural machinery.
- Give priority to agricultural and forestry traffic.

Safety information
Our cycling routes often run on paths shared with others. We therefore ask for a consistently considerate and friendly interaction. Winegrowers, farmers, and foresters use the farm tracks through fields, forests, and vineyards for their daily work (including weekends) and always have priority. Due to work operations and/or weather conditions, these paths may also be more heavily soiled at times. Special caution is also advised when cycling on the (mostly quiet and little-trafficked) streets in and around Palatinate towns.

Roadbook
You start the route at the Park / Markwardanlage. There is also a hiking car park available there. Initially, you cycle through the romantic old town of Annweiler and along the small river Queich.
At Trifelsbad, the path briefly turns onto Zweibrückerstraße, then the cycle path runs alongside the road to Sarnstall and Rinnthal. Behind Rinnthal, the route goes under the B10 and follows the edge of the forest to Wilgartswiesen. Below the Falkenburg ruins, it goes into the shoe village of Hauenstein, which invites you to stop at the shoe museum, the visitor center Schuhfabrik, or the shoe mile.
From Hauenstein, you then cycle through woods and meadows to Lug and Völkersweiler, then further through the Kaiserbach valley with Waldrohrbach and Waldhambach to the Southern Wine Route. Following the Wine Route, you ride to Eschbach and Leinsweiler. There the route turns back into the Palatinate Forest.
