The origin time of the city church lies in the era of the Staufer rule. From this time, only the tower has survived; all other parts of the building fell victim to the bombing raid in 1944. The church was rebuilt in 1950/51. Particularly worth seeing are the stained glass windows in the choir.
In the Middle Ages, the city church had a close relationship with the Cistercian monastery in Eußerthal. The town and monastery jointly maintained the church, and the monks held mass here.

The city church is part of the historical city tour through Annweiler am Trifels.
This building is a testament to medieval architecture in the Palatinate and part of the European model project "Sternenweg - Chemin des Étoiles".
Pilgrims traveled in the Middle Ages along many different routes, but oriented themselves towards the old bishop seats like Speyer or Strasbourg, towards architectural testimonies like churches, monasteries, or castles, and towards the stars. Today, many of these stone testimonies are adorned with a shell symbol.
They invite you to travel in the footsteps of the pilgrims, to discover treasures of cultural heritage, and to find peace and contemplation away from the usual paths. At the same time, pilgrimage stands for the motives of democracy, peace, tolerance, and freedom and aims to promote cross-border understanding among nations.
