The Protestant church in Rinnthal is a hall building and was built from 1831 to 1834 in the style of classicism. The imposing columned portal dominates the centre of the small Palatinate Forest village.
The Bavarian King Ludwig I was a great admirer of classicism and wanted to create a model building on the left bank of the Rhine. The Palatinate belonged to Bavaria at that time. That is why he personally supported this building project. The Rinnthal church is actually one of the few village churches in Germany that has been consistently designed in this style. The architect was Daniel Ohlmüller from Munich. The organ dates from 1826.
Since the design of the church does not really fit into the village, there is a persistent legend that the building plans were accidentally mixed up. However, this does not correspond to the truth.
