Interregio-Wanderweg: Three countries - one route
Explore the tri-border area between Switzerland, France and Germany and discover a fascinating and varied part of Europe!
The three large hiking clubs of the region: Wanderwege beider Basel, the Vosges club and the Schwarzwaldverein, have jointly maintained this cross-border path since the 1980s. It has now been revised and newly marked, inviting you to discover the tri-border region!
The Interregio-Wanderweg makes the tri-border area at the High and Upper Rhine experienceable for hikers. Between the Black Forest, Southern Vosges and Jura, the 210 km circular hiking trail leads in eleven daily stages around Basel, opening up the Markgräflerland and the High Rhine near Rheinfelden, the Basel region and the Sundgau south of Mulhouse. The path crosses the Rhine twice and offers insights into a scenic, cultural and economically fascinating region of Europe.
Stage towns:
Neuenburg a.R. – Bad Bellingen – Kandern – Steinen – Rheinfelden (D/CH) – Liestal – Aesch – Rodersdorf – Ferrette – Altkirch – Mulhouse – Neuenburg a.R.

Tips and suggestions
Marking of the path
The Interregio-Wanderweg is a joint project of the three large hiking clubs in the tri-border area. It runs in each country on the local club’s path network and is integrated in the respective marking system. Usually, the route is indicated on waymark posts with the Interregio-Wanderweg sign (three black rectangles on yellow background) with the addition "Interregio-Wanderweg" or "Sentier Interregio". Between the waymarks, hikers follow the usual club path markers linked to the Interregio-Wanderweg. In Germany this is a coloured diamond symbol, in Switzerland a yellow diamond and in France the Vosges club markers.
The involved clubs
The Schwarzwaldverein e.V. was founded in 1864 as the first hiking club in Germany in Freiburg im Breisgau. Today the club members maintain a hiking network of over 24,000 kilometres in the Black Forest, Kaiserstuhl and Hegau.

Wanderwege beider Basel see themselves as the competence centre for hiking in the Basel region. Founded in 1938, they mark around 1,000 km of hiking paths in Basel-Stadt and Basel-Landschaft on behalf of the cantons and publish a wide range of hikes in their annual programme.

The Vosges Club / Le Club Vosgien was founded in 1872. Its task is to make the Vosges massif, the Lorraine Plateau and the Alsatian Jura known to a broader public from a tourist, historical and scientific point of view. The Vosges Club is recognised as a non-profit organisation due to marking and maintaining a network of over 20,000 km of hiking paths.
