Interregio hiking trail stage 2: Bad Bellingen – Kandern
The varied stage through the Markgräflerland leaves the spa town of Bad Bellingen heading east and leads to the foothills of the Black Forest. In the old pottery town of Kandern, the Interregio hiking trail meets the well-known Westweg.
The second stage begins in the spa and health resort community of Bad Bellingen. Idyllically located, the town is surrounded by vineyards and is known for its mineral-rich thermal springs. The route now continues to Hertingen, the easternmost district of Bad Bellingen, embedded amid fields and meadows in a landscape shaped by vineyards. The most famous resident of the town was the German poet Johann Peter Hebel (1760 - 1826), who lived in Hertingen for some years as a tutor and vicar.
Then it continues through forest and fields to Feuerbach. The village is a wine-growing community known for its red wine with 12 ha of vineyard area. For a long time, it was owned by the Order of St. John. Today it is a district of the town of Kandern. At St. Johannis Breite, the connecting road between Obereggen and Sitzenkirch is crossed, followed by the ascent to Bürgeln Castle, built in 1762, the highest point of the route. The climb is rewarded with wonderful panoramic views.
Now it goes down to Sitzenkirch, a district of the town of Kandern. Worth seeing: the monastery church with beautiful grave slabs in the choir and opposite a superior waterwheel. The current church was built in 1290 in the Romanesque style.
Continuing through the Lippisbach valley, the destination of the day's stage, the pottery town Kandern, is reached.
