On this particularly tough route, we can run "through forest and meadow," albeit in reverse order. At first, we warm up on the meadows and fields along the Lósi stream, then we can thoroughly train our legs on the steep, rocky paths of Naszály.
Road types
- Mixed single-track path, which is sometimes rocky and rooty
- and normal dirt road
Energy distribution
After a relaxed jog along the stream, an increasingly steep climb awaits us all the way to the summit. It's a serious challenge, but leave energy for the descent from the summit too, as it can be quite technical and exhausting in places.
Recommended period
Can be completed at any time of day. The first half of the route can be particularly unpleasant in summer under scorching sun. Better avoid the midday hours.
Our trail running section is supported by Dockyard. The route is recommended by the legendary Csaba Németh, Hungary's most successful active trail runner.
Author’s recommendation
- While the sportier half of the family runs the loop, the other half can certainly pass the time at the Katalinpusztai Hiking Center and the surrounding educational trails.

Safety information
- In the first half of the route, in the Lósi stream valley, there is no or very weak signal. This may cause trouble for navigation and emergency calls, so be mindful. The Nature Walker app allows you to download the route offline in advance, so you will not have navigation problems.

Itinerary
- The first few hundred meters are covered on an unmarked paved road in front of the center.
- We join the P mark, which shows the route for a good while.
- After about two kilometers we separate for a short section from the red band mark and run without marking straight along the Gyadai meadow, then rejoin the previously familiar P band.
- Arriving at a larger junction, we switch to the K mark, but only for a short section.
- After a few hundred meters at the next junction, we turn to the narrow path of S.
- Approaching the summit, we follow the K▲ marks, thus reaching the highest point of Naszály.
- From here we return to the K mark and follow it back to the starting point.
Detailed description of the run
Starting from the hiking center, we begin running on the paved road in front of the building, the almost flat terrain ideal for warming up. After about half a kilometer, we join the P mark and follow it for a good stretch with few interruptions. Jogging between trees, soon we reach the meeting point of forest and meadow, and the next few kilometers will take place in this atmosphere. We run in a valley along a stream, which the mark soon crosses to the left. On this short section, we leave the marking and continue jogging straight. Not much later, the P mark returns from the left, and everything proceeds as usual. On the Gyadai meadow, we cover the kilometers on well-running terrain surrounded by hunting stands, peaceful meadows, and hayfields with rich birdlife.
After the fifth kilometer, we say goodbye to the meadow and turn right into the forest. Not only the scenery but also the elevation changes significantly, as the previously almost flat terrain starts to rise distinctly here. Eventually, we reach a crossing and turn from a wide dirt road onto a single-track path, following the K mark for a short section. Not for long, as a few hundred meters later, at a rather complex junction, we can continue along the well-marked S path. It is very enjoyable; we can speed along some winding and narrow trails for a few minutes before the lively, runnable path turns toward the mountain. From here, the hard part of the training begins. At the end of the first serious climb, a high stone wall indicates traces of earlier human activities and reminds us that we are running toward the summit of the mountain known for a huge scar on its side. Step by step battling the elevation gain, we reach a junction where turning right leads us to the summit via the K▲ mark.
Although only one kilometer remains to the summit, significant energy will be required as we climb a particularly steep and rocky path. Anyone who can run this section deserves all our respect! The view emerging on our left compensates for the significant effort. If you want to preserve your run, it is worth taking photos here, as the view is quite limited at the summit, even from the lookout. The concrete cylinder of the geodetic tower is not closed off to the public, but climbing it is dangerous due to its deteriorated condition.
After we catch our breath following the climb, we start descending on the K mark. This stretch of the run also requires attention and strength, as we face sloping and quite rocky paths. After a few hundred meters, the path narrows further and we proceed on a shoulder-width, rocky trail on the mountainside. The path gently winds with care among trees on the northern foot of Naszály. We reach the biggest attraction of the second half of the course 2.5 kilometers from the end. Here a substantial gully and a wide chasm are crossed by a rather long suspension bridge, providing an exciting experience for all ages.
From here, the K mark is joined by the educational trail sign, indicating that we will soon return to the hiking center. We jog on well-running, wide dirt roads. The outline of buildings visible among the trees, then the small pond signal that after a demanding training loop, we arrive at the terminus.
