Road types
- mixed single-track path
- and normal dirt road
- a few hundred meters of asphalt at the beginning and end of the route
Energy management
The first half of the run is mostly downhill, except for one or two smaller bumps. In the second half of the route, we climb back to the starting point, but luckily there are no too steep or long ascents to expect.
Recommended period
Can be completed at any time of the day. In icy, frosty weather the stream crossings can be harder and more dangerous.
Our trail running section sponsor is Dockyard. The route is recommended by the legendary Csaba Németh, Hungary's most successful active trail runner.
Author’s recommendation
- When crossing streams it is not always easiest to cross directly along the path. It is worth looking around, as often by detouring a few meters to the right or left, you can find stones or logs that make crossing the water easier.

- At the edge of the Békás meadow, upon reaching the asphalt road, the Z trail joins, and at the fork, we continue running along it.

Detailed running description
We leave the center of the settlement via the small street behind the square, where the P trail runs. After a few minutes, at the end of the street, we continue on the cart road turning left, then cross the Kishanta stream – this will be repeated several times later. We jog on a two-track, gently descending, comfortable dirt road, then turn right onto a narrower path and have to cross the stream again. We reach a meadow, from here we run on in a slightly more open environment.
After a short climb, we circle the Toronyalja fishing lake, then at the lake’s western tip, a very difficult but short incline awaits us. This "wall" is the moat of Bibervár built in the 12th–13th centuries, which with its steep ascent and descent is the most technical section of our route. In muddy weather, it is advisable to travel here from tree to tree. After climbing over the moat, we cross the main road leading to Kóspallag and Márianosztra. After crossing, it is worth making a 100-meter detour to the memorial site of the Toronyaljai Pauline monastery.
After the rest, we continue jogging on the soft forest floor along the P trail. After a few minutes, the landscape opens before us, and we find ourselves at the Békás meadow. Behind the barrier on the far side of the wildflower-rich meadow, we reach the road leading to Törökmező. We run for about two hundred meters on the roadside shoulder of this low-traffic road, then turn right back into the forest. Running along the edge of forest and thicket, we slowly reach behind the Törökmező tourist lodge, where we bid farewell to the P trail heading to the lodge, and turning right continue jogging along the Z trail.
Starting from the Fehér-kút spring pond, we jog along the edge of a deeply cut valley, then soon arrive at one of the many small fishing ponds dammed from streams, this time at the Törökmezei fishing pond. Crossing the embankment, we spot the K trail which leads our way almost all the way to the finish. After a short but steep walking ascent, the climb levels off, and we jog in the forest on a pleasant path. After one kilometer, we reach a meadow - it is worth looking back here, as behind us rise the spectacular peaks of the Visegrád Mountains (one or two distinctive peaks and lookout towers can even be recognized from here), and continuing we can enjoy the line of the High Börzsöny mountains.
Reaching the forest edge, we turn sharply right and travel the boundary of forest and meadow, then turning left we head into the trees. Enjoyable, winding, well-runnable paths await us for the next few kilometers. After a gratifying jog, we reach the junction of the Kóspallag–Márianosztra road where we carefully and attentively cross the asphalt! We continue running on the other side, then soon turn right at the joining P trail, and after a short climb, we arrive at the sports field standing at the edge of Kóspallag. Running along Kossuth Lajos Street, we soon see the grocery store and then the square serving as our starting point. Have a good rest!
