A sárga kereszt jelzésű út mentén találunk rá a különös nevű és látványos sziklákat elénk táró helyszínre, ahol anno a „naszályi márványt” bányászták.

A Pádimentom-kő népies elnevezés, a pados elválású, tömött szerkezetű, illetve fényesen kopó mészkövet jelöli, amit 1859-től kezdődően itt bányásztak. A kőből járdalapot, kockakövet készítettek a kőfaragók, innen ered a kőfejtő elnevezése: padimentum vagy pádimentum, azaz padló.

Pados kövek keletkezése

Ez a különös kőzet a felső-eocénban, az őstengerek elöntésekor keletkezett. Az elöntés következtében elsőként agyagos réteg, majd a partvidéki mocsarak szerves üledéksora, édesvízi mészkő, agyagmárga, később pedig sekélytengeri mészkő rakódott le a rög környezetében. A Pádimentom-kőfejtőben bányászott nummuliteszes (likacsosházúak törzsébe tartozó kihalt egysejtűek lenyomatait tartalmazó) mészkő a lagúna zátonyperemén túli lejtőn, az úgynevezett hullámbázis alatt keletkezett. Ennek a rétegnek a vastagsága kb. 100 méter. A „naszályi márvány” jellemzője, hogy a mészkőrétegek között 0,5-5 cm vastagságú márgás elválasztórétegeket találunk. A kőzet tömött szövetének szemcsevázát elsősorban elhalt élőlények maradványai (algák, kisméretű nummuliteszek - Szent László pénze –, bryozoák, illetve koralltörmelékek) alkotják.

Figyelem!
Az omladékos sziklafalra tilos és életveszélyes felmászni. A növényzettel erősen benőtt Pádimentom-kő sziklafala lombhullást követően mutatja meg leginkább pados szerkezetét.
