    Types of paths

    • Mostly single-track paths
    • Some normal dirt roads
    • A few hundred meters of cobblestone and asphalt at the beginning and at the end

    Energy distribution

Except for small fluctuations, you continually climb until the top of the ski slope, from where you just have to roll down back to the starting point. So focus your energy on the first 5 kilometers; the last two are just cool down.

    Recommended period

Can be completed at any time of day and any season. Due to heavy pedestrian traffic, avoid busy hours during the high season on weekends.

Our trail running section is supported by Dockyard. The route is recommended by the legendary Csaba Németh, Hungary's most successful active trail runner.

    Author’s recommendation

    • If you want to complete the loop at a fast, running pace, it is advisable to avoid weekend crowds during the high season.

    Itinerary

    • Starting from the parking lot, begin the run northwards along the K+ trail (Main Street) towards the Salamon Tower.
    • At the intersection near Görgey Hill, continue straight on the nature trail.
    • After circling Kis-Villám, switch to the K↺ trail.
    • After the ski slope, bypass the waterworks station on the left and ascend via an unmarked path to the Zsitvay lookout, then from there to the bobsleigh track parking lot.
    • Run along the edge of the parking lot following the K (OKT) trail.
    • The last few hundred meters are covered via the Calvary stairs - Zách Klára Street - Main Street route.

    The running route in detail

Starting from the parking lot heading towards the castle, begin the run on the sidewalk of Main Street, keeping an eye out for the K+ trail. First, pass the Royal Palace and then the Renaissance Garden. After a slight zigzag, start ascending in a narrow street towards the Salamon Tower, while enjoying increasingly beautiful views to the left in the direction of Nagymaros. After passing Alsóvár, run on a paved road for a while, then turn right into the forest. Proceed on a single-track dirt road passing the ruins of the former MNB holiday home, then after another abandoned holiday building, the Görgey memorial appears on the left. It's worth taking a minute to detour here for the view.

After the memorial, continue straight on the previously followed path on the nature trail marked PT. At the bottom of the ski slope, cross the asphalt road, then run a loop around Kis-Villám on the nature trail. Next, head towards the Mogyoróhegy restaurant, where you cross the road again and jog past the Forest School. Cross the Nagyvillám ski slope, then bypass the waterworks station on the left and climb unmarked switchbacks up to the top of the ski slope, then on to the Zsitvay lookout. It's worth lingering here for a moment to enjoy the stunning view of the peaks of the Visegrád Mountains.

Run down the meadow beside the bobsleigh track and then on the far side of the parking lot, look for the K trail. For a while, meander along a well-trodden path parallel to Panorama Road. Arrive at the Fellegvár parking lot via a short flight of steps, then on the opposite side begin a steep, rocky descent. Descending on a long, straight, rocky terrain, the Calvary Chapel built into the rock and the stations below it gradually appear. Retrace the well-known sequence of events here in reverse, then shortly after Station I, turn right onto the stairs. Upon reaching Zach Klára Street, jog a short distance and then turn right, continuing along Main Street until the parking lot abandoned at the start of the run soon appears.
