Wolf Trail overall course
This first, very flat stage connects Hel with Świnoujście. It runs almost continuously along the sea and offers wide beaches, sparse pine forests and highlights such as the Slowinski National Park with its shifting sand dunes. A relaxed, rhythmic start to the trail.
Stage 2: From the Baltic coast to the lake district
From Świnoujście, the route initially continues along the coast, via Usedom and Stralsund to Travemünde. The route then leads inland - via Lübeck to the Lauenburg Lakes Nature Park and finally to Geesthacht. A stage full of coastal light, Hanseatic towns and tranquil lake landscapes.
Stage 3: From the flat north to the low mountain ranges
The character changes noticeably between Geesthacht and Marsberg: first the northern heath and Lüneburg Heath, then the Steinhuder Meer, before the Weserbergland and the Teutoburg Forest add some real altitude. A stage with a gently rising sporting challenge.
Stage 4: Through low mountain ranges and hills
The more challenging low mountain hiking begins from Marsberg. Through the Diemelsee Nature Park, via Winterberg and the Kahler Asten, the trail follows the Rothaarsteig to Dillenburg. It then continues through the Nassau Nature Park and the Soonwald/Nahe to Bad Dürkheim. High altitude, varied scenery and much more powerful.
Stage 5: From the Palatinate Forest to Lake Constance
From Bad Dürkheim, the route crosses the Palatinate Forest, turns east at Wissembourg and reaches Karlsruhe. It then crosses the Black Forest from north to south as far as the Feldberg. Via the Schluchsee lake, the route leads down to Lake Constance and ends in Constance. A stage with wide forests, mountain trails and a wide range of scenery.
Stage 6: From Lake Constance via the Allgäu Alps to South Tyrol
From Constance, the route initially runs gently along the lake before reaching the Nagelfluhkette with the first Alpine mountain ranges. The route leads to Oberstdorf via Hittisau, Balderschwang and peaks such as the Riedbergerhorn. From there, continue on Via Alpina (Yellow Trail) and partly E5 over high alpine crossings to South Tyrol - the destination is Bolzano. A technically and physically demanding crossing of the Alps.
Stage 7: Over the Dolomites to the Adriatic Sea
From Bolzano, the final stage once again follows the Via Alpina (Yellow Trail): Over the Catinaccio and other Dolomite groups, then further eastwards through the mountain ranges of Trentino, Carnic and Julian Alps. Finally, you descend to the Adriatic Sea as far as Muggia near Trieste. The royal stage - high alpine, challenging, spectacular and with a Mediterranean finale.
