Wolf Trail stage 6
From Oberstdorf, the stage follows the course of the Via Alpina (Yellow Trail) or, in sections, the E5. Both routes lead along established high mountain paths with classic crossings between Germany, Austria and Italy. High alpine landscapes characterize the walking on these sections: striking valleys, long climbs to passes, boulder-filled paths, high alpine pastures and hut bases. The exact route of the Via Alpina (Yellow Trail) leads in several daily stages via Austria to South Tyrol and on towards Bolzano. The route passes through typical Alpine regions with broad valley plains, forest belts and high-altitude trails above the tree line before approaching the open valley area of the Adige Valley. The stage ends in Bolzano - surrounded by Mediterranean flair, vineyards and the transition to the South Tyrolean Alps.
Overall, this is a very challenging stage with an alpine character: steep ascents and descents, exposed passages and large differences in altitude require solid fitness and experience. At the same time, it offers the most spectacular scenery of the Wolf Trail to date - from the Nagelfluh mountain range to the Allgäu highlands to the crossing of the main Alpine chain.
