New sections on old paths
The Alpe Adria Cycle Path has been rideable since 2012. A cross-border project made this new Alpine crossing to the Adriatic Sea possible. Existing bike paths were connected and new sections built, such as near Werfen in Salzburg, in Arnoldstein in Carinthia, or from Cervignano to Grado. Particularly impressive is the new 140-meter-long Klammstein bike tunnel in the Gastein Valley. The new bike route, including the eight-kilometer-long railway Tauern tunnel, allows you to cross the Alps without major climbs.

From Salzburg to Grado in one week
The route leads from the Mozart city of Salzburg (425 m) through the Salzach Valley and the Gastein Valley to Böckstein. From here, it continues with an 11-minute train ride to Mallnitz (1,191 m) and then by bike again
across Carinthia to Spittal an der Drau, Villach and Arnoldstein to the Austrian-Italian border. On Italian soil, the route – partly on disused railway lines – runs via Tarvis, Gemona, Udine and Aquileia to Grado on the Adriatic Sea. Companions along the way include idyllic villages, impressive sights and magnificent natural landscapes!
