Schloss Leopoldskron wurde im Jahr 1736 als Familienbesitz von Salzburgs Fürsterzbischof Leopold Anton Freiherr von Firmian (1679–1744) erbaut. Die Pläne stammen vom schottischen Benediktinermönch Bernhard Stuart. Die Stuckdecken, die zu den schönsten aus jener Zeit gehören, verfertigte Johann Kleber.
“Denkmäler erzählen Geschichte und Geschichten”, und der Park des Schlosses Leopoldskron beherbergt besonders viele Geschichten. In den 1920er Jahren ließ Festspielgründer Max Reinhardt , der das Schloss zuvor in verfallenem Zustand samt dem parkähnlichen Grundstück am Rande des Leopoldskroner Weihers gekauft hatte, eine aufwendige Freiluftbühne, einen neobarocken Park samt Gartentheater und Spiegelteich bauen. Er wollte dort seine Vision barocker Theatervorstellungen realisieren.

Auf der Autobahn A1 kommend nehmen Sie die Ausfahrt Flughafen Salzburg und folgen der Innsbrucker Bundesstrasse Richtung Stadtzentrum. An der ampelgeregelten T-Kreuzung biegen Sie rechts in die Maxglaner Hauptstrasse. Dieser folgen Sie bis zum Gasthof Riedenburg wo Sie rechts in die Moosstrasse abbiegen. Biegen Sie an der zweiten Ampel links in die Nussdorferstrasse, welche in die Leopoldskroner Strasse übergeht. Von dort geht es gerade aus bis zum Hotel Schloss Leopoldskron.
