Die Seelsorge am Wallfahrtsort Maria Plain war von Beginn an Benediktinermönchen anvertraut: zunächst den Professoren der Salzburger Benediktiner-Universität bis zur 1810 erfolgten Aufhebung der Universität, seit dem 25. August 1824 dem Benediktinerkloster St. Peter in Salzburg.
