    First Stage (Trier – Merzig)

In the oldest city in Germany, Trier, the flat and family-friendly cycling route begins on excellent cycle paths along the Saar-Mosel riverside, the Saar Canal, and the Rhine-Marne Canal. In Trier, it is advisable to first visit the historic old town with Porta Nigra and the architecturally impressive Viehmarkttherme. The route starts along the Mosel and initially leads to Konz, where the Saar flows into the Mosel. Cycling upstream on the Saar Cycle Path, you pass the medieval-influenced Saarburg on the way to Mettlach. Nestled in the tri-border area is the traditional company Villeroy & Boch, where you should definitely visit the Keravision experience world in the old Benedictine abbey. A few kilometers away, you reach the famous Saar Loop at Mettlach-Orscholz. A climb to the Cloef viewpoint is rewarded with a magnificent view. The last kilometers of the day lead to Merzig, where you can end the day relaxed in the Garden of Senses or with a glass of the local apple wine, Viez.

    Second Stage (Merzig - Saarbrücken)

Leaving Merzig, you cycle to the city of the French Sun King Louis XIV. In the Vauban city, besides historical fortifications, casemates, and many other sights, a cozy atmosphere with renowned gastronomy awaits. The lively pedestrian zone with numerous cafés invites you to linger. An industrial-influenced section leads further to Völklingen, where the Völklingen Ironworks, closed in 1986, towers over the city skyline. Take the opportunity to immerse yourself in the world of iron and steel and admire the impressive architecture of the first industrial heritage site of UNESCO World Heritage. After a few kilometers, the daily destination Saarbrücken is reached. The state capital offers, besides the modernly restored castle, the baroque ensemble around the Ludwig Church, and the historic old town with the St. Johanner Market, also a French flair. This can be found again in the culinary delights as well as in the lively old town center with numerous cafés, bistros, and pubs between the historic facades and narrow artisan alleys.

    Third Stage (Saarbrücken – Mittersheim)

The next morning, continue towards France - shortly after the lock in Güdingen, you unobtrusively cross the national border to the French neighbors. In Sarreguemines, the Museum of Faience Technology and the Musée de la Faience provide a comprehensive insight into the city's ceramic history and testify to what was once one of the most important production sites for faience worldwide. Here, where Saar and Blies flow together, you now cycle along the Saar Canal. The path along the idyllic recreational waters takes you past romantic small locks, dreamy natural landscapes, and through tranquil villages. Passing Sarralbe, the route continues to Harskirchen, where the remarkable church by architect Stengel is worth admiring. The stage goal today, Mittersheim with the well-known Mittersheimer Weiher, is reached quickly from here.

    Fourth Stage (Mittersheim – Saverne)

Cycling along the Saar Canal from Mittersheim past the "Étang du Stock" to the "Étang de Gondrexange," where the Saar Canal merges into the Rhine-Marne Canal. Then continuing to Sarrebourg, the "Gateway to the Vosges and Lorraine ponds," where you find an extraordinary variety of historical monuments. Cycling through a picturesque landscape, passing 17 locks, you reach the charming industrial and commercial town of Saverne. The city skyline is shaped by the impressive castle of the Prince-Bishops of Rohan. The adjoining rose garden, with over 8,800 rose bushes of 450 varieties, gives the city its nickname "Rose City."

    Fifth Stage (Saverne – Strasbourg)

Pedaling strongly, you reach your final destination, the UNESCO World Heritage city Strasbourg, along the Rhine-Marne Canal. The European city captivates every visitor with its special charm and historic beauty. You must not miss the medieval old town with its impressive Cathedral of Our Lady, the Rohan Palace, and numerous other historic sights. The historic city center, the "Grande Île," is connected to the rest of the city by 21 bridges and crossings and invites you to take a walk. Experience a cosmic journey in the Strasbourg Planetarium, where you have a view of a lifelike starry sky. Further information on sights, activity tips, and events is available locally.
