Wandeln Sie auf unterirdischen Pfaden direkt unter dem Schlossplatz und entdecken auf 1.500 m² Ausstellungsfläche den Wandel von einer mittelalterlichen Burganlage zum Barockschloss

14 Meter unter dem Schlossplatz werden Sie staunen über gut erhaltene Relikte früherer Burg- und Schlossanlagen des Saarbrücker Schlossfelsens, über die 500 Jahre alten Kasematten und die mächtige unterirdische Bastion. Die Aufbaugesellschaft Saarbrücker Schloss legte diese beeindruckende Anlage zwischen 2003 und 2007 frei und inszenierte sie als unterirdisches Museum, das vom Historischen Museum Saar aus zugänglich ist.

Von der frühmittelalterlichen Burg zum Barockschloss

Die Saarbrücker Burg wurde unter dem Namen "Castellum Sarabruca" erstmals 999 urkundlich erwähnt. Seit dem frühen 12. Jahrhundert befand sich an dieser Stelle der Sitz der Grafen von Saarbrücken, welche die Burg kontinuierlich ausbauten. Von 1602 bis 1617 wurden die Burggebäude abgerissen und innerhalb der Wehranlahen ein Renaissance-Schloss errichtet. Dieses Schloss wurde im frühen 18. Jahrhundert ebenfalls demontiert und durch ein Residenzschloss im Barockstil ersetzt.

Erlebbare Geschichte

Seit 2006 können Besucherinnen und Besucher in einer Abteilung des Historischen Museums Saar über eine Treppe zu den Überresten der mittelalterlichen Burganlage hinabsteigen. Neben dem Roten Turm aus dem 13. Jahrhundert sind ein spätmittelalterlicher Mauerzug und die in den Burggraben vorspringende Südostbastion aus dem 16. Jahrhundert mit einer darin eingeschlossenen Zisterne zu besichtigen. Vorbei an einer originalen mittelalterlichen Schießkammer (15. Jh.) gelangen die Besucher über einen Steg in den Burggraben und schauen hoch auf die gewaltige Südwestbastion der Renaissanceburg mit ihren Schießscharten

An verschiedenen Orten im Burggraben und in den Kasematten informieren Hörspielszenen, unterstützt durch eine ansprechende Lichtregie, z. B. über den Alltag der Burgbesatzung. Nachbauten einer Hakenbüchse und eines Geschützes auf Festungslafette veranschaulichen die militärische Funktion der Festungswerke. Verschiedene Informationsmodule erklären die historischen Zusammenhänge.
