Das Saarbrücker Rathaus wurde 1897 bis 1900 im neugotischen Stil von Georg J. von Hauberisser gebaut, dem gleichen Architekten, der auch die Rathäuser in München und Wiesbaden entworfen hat. Im Mittelpunkt steht der 54 m hohe Turm, von dem aus täglich um 15,15 Uhr und 19.19 Uhr ein Glockenspiel ertönt.
Die original erhaltene Frontseiteist geschmückt durch Sandsteinfiguren, die die alten Handwerksstände darstellen. Man findet dort einen Bergmann, einen Hüttenarbeiter, einen Bauern, einen Bierbrauer, einen Kaufmann und einen Gerber. Nicht leicht zu deuten ist die Figur des St. Georg mit Drachen - sie steht vermutlich als Symbol für den Kampf gegen das Böse. Sehenswert im Rathaus ist der Festsaal. Hier finden in festlich geschmückter Umgebung jährlich etwa 1000 Trauungen statt.
