Pilis Bike Iluska route (Pilisszántó P+B)
Starting from the foot of Pilis, enriched by its views, we begin exploring the trails, elevations, and towns of the Pilisvörösvár basin. For riders tempted from asphalt routes into the forest, this round is an ideal introduction, as the bike only needs to be handled on off-road sections, which are not very technical. Therefore, this route is recommended even for less experienced riders with trekking bikes.
Of course, it is worth mentioning there are a few climbs where effort is required to ascend. However, progressing slowly, taking rests, and then recovering in the town sections, the task is quite achievable.
These overcome obstacles, climbed hills, captured views, and the forest’s scents and sounds will be the memories rewarding you at home, encouraging you to mount your saddle, sweat, and strive.
Author’s recommendation
- The forested sections are quite smooth, so you can confidently try this route even with a trekking bike without suspension.

Description:
Szántó saddle - Iluska spring (PB6)
- Terrain: asphalt, gravel road
We warm up with a relaxed roll at first since from the parking lot we turn right and descend on the asphalt. After the town center, we turn right into a small street. Following the blue cycling sign, the asphalt slowly changes to gravel and the town to forest. It's worth taking a moment to look back at the Pilis massif before we start a persistent climb that will really make us sweat. Shortly after leaving the path leading to the Klotild cave, we reach the Iluska spring.
Iluska spring - Pilisszentiván (PB6, PB7)
- Terrain: gravel road, asphalt
At the intersection, head left and continue gaining elevation. Meanwhile, the forest atmosphere changes, with pine trees dominating again. After reaching the top, the landscape opens to the right, and we start rolling down to the edge of Pilisvörösvár. Following the green cycling sign, we reach the town center via small streets, then cross under a subway and continue left at the petrol station into a narrow, one-way street. Reaching Szabadság street, only one corner remains before turning left and spotting the sports field, marking the furthest point of our route.

- Terrain: asphalt, gravel road
After a break, leaving the parking lot at the far side of the sports field, approach the dirt road via Sport Street, then cross it and continue one intersection on the parallel service road. Turn left here to conquer the climb, and at the top, turn left again. Continuing down the narrow street, at the end, find yourself along Main Road 10. Turn right at the petrol station and use the bike path on the sidewalk to pass under the subway. On the other side, about 100 meters later at the left-hand bus stop, be very careful! Between two fences, a shoulder-width alley marked with the S sign leads into the peaceful suburban area of Pilisvörösvár. At the end of this long straight, reach the town edge. Turn left at the last houses, then right to follow the dozer road between trees.
On a comfortable, smooth dirt road, reach the forest where the limestone soil and conifers give the landscape a unique and special atmosphere. The picturesque view compensates for the effort, as a significant climb must be overcome. We reach the Iluska spring again, where you can relax and refresh at the built rest area.

From here, a pleasant downhill leads all the way to the edge of Pilisszántó. As we exit the forest, a breathtaking view opens up. To the left, Pilis peak towers over the beautifully situated village with the Boldog Özséb lookout tower, and to the right stretches the chain of Hosszú-hegy and Kevélyek. It's hard to tear oneself away from the towering formations around us. Continuing straight, we enter Pilisszántó's main road, then turn left to climb a steep hill. At the village outskirts, turn left at the large stone parking lot, where the starting and ending point of our tour is located.
Public transport
Unfortunately, Pilisszántó can only be reached by bus in public transport, and bikes cannot be transported on it. Railway lines lie quite far from the town, so it is recommended to reach the starting point by car.Get Timetable to destination
