Pilis Bike Iluska route (Pilisszentiván P+B)
A route for those who are not yet daring or do not want to spend hours immersed in the wild nature. Rather, they would like to just nibble from the forest trails, while the proximity of the city is a comforting distance away.
Pilisszentiván, Piliscsaba, and Pilisvörösvár have exceptional attributes. Almost wherever we start, we find forest and hills ahead of us. Taking advantage of this, we connect these settlements into a circle that moves every part of us, alternately including quiet small-town streets and peaceful forest trails.
The route is named after the Iluska spring, which we pass halfway around. But fortunately, this is not the only sight during the ride. Nearby is the Klotild cave, and on the other side of the route, the former Soviet shooting range where some scenes of the film "Fateless" were shot.
The sections passing through the settlements reassure us that if something happens with our bike, we run out of refreshment, or the weather changes negatively, the proximity of civilization can help us.
Author’s recommendation
- In case of technical or other issues, from the halfway Klotildliget stop it is easy to return close to the starting point by train.

Description:
Pilisszentiván - Iluska spring (PB7)
- Terrain: gravel road, sand, asphalt
We start cycling from the northern end of the sports field towards Rét Street, where at the fork we take the left branch immediately. We roll along a quiet street among family houses, which slowly disappear as we enter the forest. We proceed on a flat, straight road. Coming out from among the leaves, rocks and limestone become dominant. Traveling between Sóder Hill and Csaba Hill, we find ourselves on an abandoned shooting range. The base was built for the training ground of the Imperial and Royal Army and was later used by the Soviet Army. Another interesting fact is that some scenes of the film based on Nobel laureate Imre Kertész's book "Fateless" were shot here.
If we can park the bike somewhere and time permits, it is worth visiting two interesting rock formations on the right, the Mushroom Rock and the Devil's Altar Rock. Following the K⩍ sign will lead us to both sights.
Continuing through an industrial area, we reach Piliscsaba, then via Máriapark Street arrive at road 10. Turning right here is only a short distance, but the road continues to the left, so we must turn very, very carefully. If necessary, pull over to the right side of the road and cross the road deliberately a second time. After two right turns and one left turn, we cycle through Fényesliget residential area, and at the end of the street we reach the Klotildliget Pilis Bike INFO POINT.
Continuing straight, we move along a wide forest road between dense trees. A long-unseen climb makes us warm up thoroughly, but fortunately we soon reach the top of the ascent. Turning right onto a similar dirt road, we glide alongside a fence almost without pedaling. At the bottom of the slope, we turn left. Around the Iluska spring area, we arrive at a forest intersection that also leads to Pilisszántó and Pilisvörösvár.
Iluska spring - Pilisszentiván (PB6, PB7)
- Terrain: gravel road, asphalt
We choose the right direction following the green cyclist pictogram, shifting to an easier gear as we start to overcome a climb. Meanwhile, the forest atmosphere changes, with pine trees dominating again. Reaching the top, the landscape opens up to the right, and we begin the descent to the edge of Pilisvörösvár. Following the green cyclist sign, we reach the town center through small streets, where after crossing the underpass, we continue on the narrow, single-lane street turning left at the base of the petrol station. After reaching Szabadság Street, we only have to go a short distance, and turning left we see the sports field again which marks the end of our route.
