The nature-oriented discovery route combines the idyllic Amper valley with the Isarauen nature reserve as well as the Kranzberger Forst forest area and leads to beautiful viewpoints and bathing lakes.
The invigorating discovery route to nature and landscape along the Amper and Isar reveals different facets of the Freising region. After leaving the cathedral city of Freising, the forest in the Kranzberger Forst shapes the landscape and provides excellent shade. Soon after, the element water takes precedence and many beautiful spots and different perspectives are offered along the Amper. Between Moosburg and Freising, the Isar shows a completely different river nature with its refreshing shoals and often quietly murmuring riparian border.
Along the route, many places invite you to stop by and quench your thirst– from the milk vending machine to the beer garden. Refreshing places to relax, especially on hot summer days, are provided by three bathing ponds near the Amper. Many plants and waterfowl can be seen along the route, demonstrating how beautiful deceleration can be.

Roadbook
From Marienplatz in Freising’s city center, the route continues from Obere Hauptstraße along Vöttinger Straße towards Weihenstephan, the most well-known district of Freising, with its beautiful show gardens, the campus of Weihenstephan-Triesdorf University of Applied Sciences, and the oldest brewery in the world. From there, we follow the signs "Ring der Regionen" through the Freising Forest as well as the Kranzberger Forst. A detour to the Bavarian State Arboretum "Weltwald", where trees from different continents can be admired, is recommended for a first break.
Via Dorfacker and Kühnhausen, the route continues to Berg. There, the path leads left towards the south to the town center of the community of Kranzberg. A visit to the Bronze Age Bavaria Museum (Pantaleonstrasse 25, https://bronzezeit-bayern-museum.de; check opening times!) and the nearby recreational area Kranzberger See with swimming facilities is recommended. In Kranzberg we turn right at Ringstraße and continue on the 4-star Ammer-Amper bicycle route to Allershausen, where the parish church of St. Josef, the Glonn terraces, and various eateries offer another stop. The route continues along the Ammer-Amper bicycle route past small villages such as Tünzhausen, Burghausen, and Haindlfing towards Zolling. Those who want a magnificent view of the Amper valley are recommended the viewpoint in Wippenhausen (steep climb!).
We stay on the Ammer-Amper bicycle route and continue towards Langenbach. Just behind Zolling, the bathing ponds Anglberger Weiher and Haager Weiher invite you to cool off in the water on hot summer days. Also worth a detour at Haag am Amper (about 3.5 km on Bockerradweg towards Haag starting from Langenbach) is one of Bavaria’s oldest beer gardens, Schlossallee Haag. Via Inkofen, where you can enjoy a beautiful view of the Amper valley from the height, and Thonstetten, we continue to Moosburg an der Isar and the end of the Ammer-Amper bicycle route. Before continuing on the Isar bicycle path, a visit to the well-known St. Kastulus Cathedral, a stroll through Moosburg’s historic old town, or a break in one of the numerous cafes and restaurants should not be missed.
Through green riparian forests, we follow the course of the Isar into the "Isarauen" nature reserve. Here, a pristine Isar and valuable floodplain areas await us, providing habitats for numerous animal and plant species. At Hangenham, a detour (short, steep climb) to the Friends of Nature house with a magnificent view over the Isar valley is recommended. Continuing along the Isar bicycle path, we pass Marzling and enter the urban area of Freising. Several bridges must be crossed along the way.
At the Korbinian bridge, we turn right towards the city center onto Erdinger Straße, then immediately follow Parkstraße to the left. Shortly after, we cross the railway tracks at an underpass, follow a short section of Ottostraße, then turn right onto Fürstendamm. At Mohrenbrunnen, we turn right onto Bahnhofstraße and continue to Obere Hauptstraße. There, we keep right and shortly afterward arrive at Marienplatz.
The cathedral city of Freising itself offers many winding alleys, pretty townhouses, and various places to rest at the end of the route in its historic old town. A visit to the Mariendom on the cathedral hill is also worthwhile.
