Im ehemaligen Alten Gefängnis in Freising wird heute ein umfangreiches Kulturprogramm mit Ausstellungen und einem kleinen Museum angeboten.
Wo einst zu Gericht gesessen, Menschen arretiert und sogar Hexenprozesse abgehalten wurden, befinden sich heute Ausstellungsräume, ein kleines Museum und ein uriges Weinlokal. Das Alte Gefängnis an der Fischergasse ist ein Bauwerk aus dem 17. Jahrhundert und wurde bis 1965 als Gerichtsgefängnis genutzt.
Nach 40 Jahren Leerstand weckte ein privater Förderverein die einstige Fronfeste wieder zum Leben, restaurierte die Gemäuer liebevoll und fachmännisch und machte sie der Öffentlichkeit zugänglich. Die Zimmer im ersten Stock dienen das ganze Jahr über als begehrte Ausstellungsräume für Künstler und Kulturvereine. Herzstück des Gefängnismuseums ist der Gefängnisturm mit den alten Zellen aus der Barockzeit. Sie werden sich gruseln – versprochen!
