Der Mariendom gilt als das Wahrzeichen von Freising liegt erhaben auf dem Gipfel des Dombergs. Charakteristisch sind seine beiden weithin sichtbaren Kirchtürme.
Der Freisinger Mariendom mit seinen markanten Türmen ist das wichtigste Wahrzeichen der Stadt Freising und ein bedeutendes spirituelles Zentrum. Die romanische Basilika aus dem 12. Jahrhundert beeindruckt mit dem Westportal, das Kaiser Friedrich Barbarossa mit einem Bischof und Kaiserin Beatrix zeigt – ein Zeichen des Schutzes für Freising. Nach dem Brand von 1159 wurde der Dom neu errichtet und vereint seitdem romanische, gotische und barocke Elemente. Besonders prächtig ist der Stuck des Egid Quirin Asam. Das Hochaltarbild zeigt die apokalyptische Frau. Das Gemälde ist eine Kopie nach Peter Paul Rubens. Dessen ursprünglich für Freising geschaffenes Werk hängt heute in der Alten Pinakothek München. Der Freisinger Dom ist ein spirituelles und kulturelles Zentrum, Gottesdienste, Konzerte und Führungen ziehen jährlich mehrere tausend Besucher an. Unter dem Altar führt eine Treppe hinab in die Hallenkrypta, mit der weltberühmten Bestiensäule.
