The Saxon-Bavarian city network connects with its bike routes to historical commonalities and builds bridges between cities and regions. Our route suggestions use existing and signposted bike touring paths.

We start in Plauen, the metropolis of Vogtland, and cycle via Voigtsgrün to Möschwitz. Near there is the historic Lochbauernhof, which today houses a restaurant. Then we continue along the Pöhl reservoir, one of the largest summer recreation areas in Saxony, towards Mylau. If desired, a detour to the Elstertal Bridge can be planned. By no means should you miss the Göltzschtal Bridge, the largest brick bridge in the world. In Mylau itself, the well-preserved castle with its natural history museum is worth a visit.

A bit off our route lies between Neumark and Gospersgrün the Schönfels castle with an open-air stage and restaurant, which allows for a last rest before reaching the destination of this tour. Zwickau, also known as the Robert Schumann city or city of automobile manufacturing, now enjoys a good reputation as a shopping city. Those who want to take it a bit more relaxed now should unwind in the renovated Art Nouveau bath (Johannisbad).

    Roadbook

This bike route is not marked with its own logo. The bike route itself runs on existing bike paths and lightly trafficked roads and is also easily rideable in the opposite direction.

Our stage starts at the central station in Plauen. First, we turn onto Reichenbacher Straße towards the Stresemann Bridge and cross the Weiße Elster with it. To the right of it, we find a bike path that runs along the water. Shortly afterwards, we reach the Streichhölzer Bridge, here we change sides of the river again. Now it goes briefly along Liebigstraße onto the Elsterradweg. But only briefly, because then we turn left again onto Virchowstraße. At the end of this street, we turn left onto Reichenbacher Straße and head out of town past the Festhalle. There is a bike path on the left side here. At the intersection Äußere Reichenbacher Straße/Friesenweg/Alte Reichenbacher Straße, we change to the bike path on the right side, which leads through an underpass under the B 173 into a beautiful landscape.
Now you follow forest and meadow paths and ride through the forest to the Voigtsgrüner Weg (follow the signs towards Voigtsgrün). At Voigtsgrüner Weg, we meet the long-distance bike route Euregio Egrensis, which connects Saxony, Thuringia, Bavaria, and the Czech Republic. We follow it for a longer stretch. Along the Flora-Fauna Habitat area "Lower Friesenbach area," a brisk climb awaits us here. The Euregio Egrensis turns left at Voigtsgrün, and two more climbs have to be mastered here. Behind Möschwitz, it first goes downhill again, so the ride along the Pöhl reservoir offers some relaxation. After a few kilometers at the reservoir, it gets sporty again. We pass through Neudörfel, pass through green areas, and repeatedly brush past small villages. We continuously follow the Euregio Egrensis long-distance bike route. We pass through Herlasgrün, Limbach, Mühlwand, Rotschau, and Reichenbach in Vogtland. In Reichenbach, we then leave the Euregio Egrensis long-distance bike route: At Kleiner Anger, we cross the B94 and switch to the Regional Main Bike Route 1. Here too, there is quite a bit of altitude to overcome. The highest point (about 450 m) is reached between Reichenbach and Neumark. Natural landscape and smaller settlements alternate again. In Gospersgrün, we leave Regional Main Bike Route 1 and follow the Regional Main Bike Route 24. This leads us the last stretch via Thanhof, Lichtentanne, and Weissenbrunn straight to Zwickau.
