The more than 26 million red bricks of the world's largest brick bridge gleam across the Vogtland landscape, visible from afar.
With a total of 98 arches, four storeys and a length of 574 metres, it spans the Göltzsch valley near Netzschkau. It was designed by Prof. Andreas Schubert from Wernesgrün in the Vogtland region. This spectacular structure, whose architecture is modelled on a Roman aqueduct, attracts around 80,000 visitors each year. The best way to explore the magnificent viewpoints around the bridge is on foot or by bike along the numerous walking and cycling paths.Key facts:
  • Construction period: 1846–1851 (Leipzig–Nuremberg railway line)
  • Height: 78 m, length: 574 m
  • four storeys with 98 archesover
  • 26 million bricks, over 23,000 tree trunks (scaffolding),
  • The information point and viewing platform are located at Car Park 1 by the Göltzschtal Bridge. Upon prior booking, the “Nördliches Vogtland” e. V. tourist association offers an interesting, entertaining and informative talk on bridge construction on site. This can be arranged at any time by prior arrangement.
