The Saubrunnen was designed by the well-known Palatinate sculptor Erich Sauer from Frankenthal.
The fountain is located on the historic Saumarkt square, the place where the pig market, an economically important event for the ‘Viehstrich’ (the area north of the Bienwald forest from Kandel to Schweighofen), used to be held.
