Through slightly hilly landscape, past meadows and fields, the Südpfalz cycle route takes us through the largest tobacco growing area in Germany.
The cycle route begins at Scheibenhardt on the PAMINA Lautertal cycle route and leads through the Bienwald to Kandel with its lovely shopping mile. Via Hatzenbühl and Hayna, it goes through the largest tobacco growing area in Germany. It continues over the Queich meadows near Offenbach to Bornheim. Pay special attention here to storks searching for food in the meadows. The stork center in Bornheim with its permanent exhibition offers a good stop. At interactive stations, young and old visitors can learn a lot about Meister Adebar. Shortly after the Dreihof golf course, you cross the route of the Südpfalz draisine railway. Through Hochstadt and Klein- and Großfischlingen, the route leads past vineyards to Kirrweiler. The route is slightly hilly and well suited for families with children. The route can also be ridden in reverse from Kirrweiler to Scheibenhardt.
UFFBASSE! - Campaign for considerate coexistence in nature
- Be considerate on the way – Always behave attentively, friendly, and considerately towards everyone you meet on the way. This is especially true on farm tracks, which winemakers, farmers, and foresters also use on weekends.
- Picnic & rubbish – Remember a rubbish bag for the way and take your waste home with you. Use only the furnished rest areas for breaks & picnics.
- Nature conservation – Stay on designated paths and avoid unnecessary noise when in nature. Leave the forest at dusk at the latest to avoid disturbing the rhythm of nocturnal animals.

Safety information
Cycling on farm tracks – Our cycle routes often run on paths shared with others. We therefore ask for considerate and friendly behavior at all times. Winemakers, farmers, and foresters use the farm tracks through fields, forests, and vineyards for their daily work – even on weekends. Due to work assignments and/or weather conditions, paths can sometimes be heavily soiled. Special caution is also required when crossing streets in and around Palatinate villages. Road closures and detours must be observed.
Emergency situations – In case of an emergency, quick help is needed. And even if mobile phones can transmit GPS signals, the classic rescue points are often fastest. These are located at places easily accessible for emergency vehicles. Remember the points with green signs and a white cross. In an emergency, return there and give the number on the sign when calling for help. That way, rescuers will know where to find you.

Roadbook
The slightly hilly cycle route begins in Scheibenhardt right at the French border, where you have the connection from the wonderful German-French Lautertal cycle route. On winding paths, you will pass through the Bienwald with its protected flora and fauna via Büchelberg to Kandel. The town center with its half-timbered passages and romantic squares invites you to linger! Numerous specialty shops offer an attractive selection.
Continue cycling through woods and fields past Erlenbach to Hayna. Along endless tobacco fields and historic tobacco sheds, the Südpfalz cycle route leads you to Herxheim and further via the L509 to Offenbach. If luck is on your side, you can experience magnificent white stork populations up close! Cycle past the town hall and cross the L542. Then continue over the water-rich Queich meadows to Dreihof Essingen. Take a creative break here and treat yourself to a round of golf on the widely known Südpfalz green. The next station is Bornheim, where you pass the bike and footpath at the southern town entrance past the Saubrunnen, continue, and shortly after Bornheim cross the B272 country road. From Bornheim via Essingen and Hochstadt, you cycle northwest on a farm track past the sports ground to Kleinfischlingen and then on to Großfischlingen. Here you have the possibility to connect to the cycle touring route "From the Rhine to the Wine". From the romantic wine village Venningen, the slightly hilly cycle route leads you along the country road through the fertile plains of the Gäu to Kirrweiler.
